Bottle 1540 of 1722. Aroma begins crossing the eyes and burning the nostrils but mellows with time in the glass. Molasses, pepper, maple syrup, fusel alcohol and a certain brinyness. The flavor dangerously masks ABV. Vanilla, gooey caramel, Mrs. Butterworth, cake batter, and butterscotch. Like two different beers when rating the nose and flavor. Syrupy and sticky.

Pours black with no head. Only first nip some taste of alcohol, every next one just perfect. Great sipper.
Excellent stuff. Deep, sweet, boozy... sugar and honey and bourbon and vanilla. Thick and sticky. Delicious. cinek (285) - POLAND - DEC 12, 2016

Bottle. Hazy deep copper liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, warming alcohol, dried fruit, raw sugar, raisins and bread. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of bourbon, raw sugar, raisins and bread. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Very boozy, but nice still.

Bourbon barrel aged awesomeness. Easily my favourite from De Molen and it might be the best barley wine I’ve had. From the first time I tried it in a 18cl bottle it’s been a hunt to get more.
Like a heavier and sweeter Thomas Hardys in the most beautiful way possible. tmrmwel (2058) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUN 1, 2016
Bottle shared with BBGTC, vintage 2014. Pours clear maroon, with a very small rocky head. Aroma is roasted malts with bread, chocolate and toffee, as well as wooden barrels, leather and heather. Full, smooth body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet, roasted malts, with grains, bread, chocolate and toffee, as well wooden barrels and muscovado. Lingering sweet malty notes. Delicious evening sipper. Classy and tasty stuff.Alengrin (5249) - BELGIUM - MAR 21, 2016
Black color with a fine tan head. Ok lacing. Solid intensity in the aroma. Full body and a pleasant soft carbonation. Not to sweet, quite balanced. Toffee, vanilla, dried fruits, oak and mild bourbon. Not that high alcohol in the flavor.

Bottle shared by Sabine, cheers! BBA barley wine with very loosely structured, coarse head consisting of irregular yellowish light beige bubbles, quickly dissolving to practically nothing; deep, warm mahogany brown colour with wine red hue and yellowish light brown edges. Strong, perfumey bouquet of old madera, sweet sherry and white port, next to candied cherry, chestnut, old furniture, vanilla tannins, ripe banana, caramelized sugar, honey and, of course, sweet bourbon. Intense candied cherry-, fig, white raisin, banana and ’praline’-like sweetness in onset balanced by a soft basic sourishness, some umami accents here and there; thick and vinous, oily body with expectedly very soft (to almost flat) carbo, but in this case not really impairing drinkability. Middle phase is thick honeyish and caramelly sweetness with a bittering toasted edge in the end, cleverly enhanced by the drying, oaky vanilla tannin-rich woodiness and a long lasting, but never astringent, liqueurish alcohol warmth. English style barley wine on a high level, I can imagine this perhaps being overly sweet to some, but the drying bourbon barrel wood makes for sufficient balance, at least to my personal taste. Very enjoyable and rich, slow winter sipper.
