bottle brewed 11 april 09 at dak’s on 8/14/10.
orange-yellowy tinted brownish black with no head.
wow! the aroma!... meaty/jerky, yeast, ash, roast, chocolate, wood, rubber, smoke, black olives and tangy barbecue sauce.
the flavor is a lot alike.... ashy charcoal, umami and vanilla mix in there as well as a tartness on the finish. the aftertaste lingers as chocolate covered briquettes. it is a touch on the sweet side but the ash and alcohol really help keep the slickness in the medium body in check. 9/4/9/4/18+ Alengrin (5722) - BELGIUM - SEP 14, 2014
Another imperial from this brewery, this one intending to have an umami taste (which is not that rare in imperials to begin with, but anyway). Thin, creamy, beige head, jet black colour with somewhat reddish hue. Complex, powerful aroma of coffee, roasted nuts, chocolate, peat, soy sauce, bark, liquorice. Earthy and chocolatey flavour, soy sauce, indeed umami, even a slight saltiness, smoky, thick and oily mouthfeel, dark fruits, strong roasted bitterness in the finish with remarkably well hidden alcohol. This is exceptionally well made even for Molen’s high standards. Ungstrup (38413) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAY 11, 2010
Draft. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, soy sauce, alcohol, wood, and chocolate, leading to a dry roasted finish. thebeertourist (5189) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 17, 2010

Fruit and big hop aroma. Black strong in alcohol hoppy and fruity with a hint of dryness and bitterness in a coffee roast finish. omhper (25742) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - JUN 10, 2010
Draught at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Very black, brown head. Concentrated hoppy licorice aroma. Dryish dense and full bodied with soft mouthfeel. There’s tobacco and salty licorice, reminiscent of a well aged good baltic porter, such as very old Limfjords Porter. Lovely concentrated flavours that never gets aggressive. Great stuff! madsberg (11776) - Søborg, DENMARK - JUL 5, 2010

Smell is a strong mix of: liquorice, roasted malts and ingredients, hints of cream.
Taste is a great viscous mix of coffee, toffee, liquorice, caramel and roasted malts.
Nice bitter aftertaste.
