Bottle. Deep golden body with amber highlights. Huge, frothy white head with light gold highlights. Big aroma of citrus, flowers, orange peel, lemon zest, toasted grain, candy, bread. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture turning fizzy in the finish, lively carbonation. Taste of citrus with just a hint of husky grain. Nice lingering bitterness. Overall, crisp, well balanced. FlacoAlto (4228) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - SEP 9, 2012

Another excessively foamy beer, I wasn’t quite quick enough and lost some foam to the floor before I could get this in a glass. A very soft pour still nets a five-finger thick, and growing, pale tan tinged head that overflows my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip. The beer is light amber color that shows a clear, almost orange tinged, gold / pale-amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of candied tropical fruit, grassy herbs, dried hay, chewy cracker like malt, citrus scented honey, kumquat zest, and a huge floral note that leans towards peach blossoms. There is an almost spicy cinnamon like note to this beer after it warms up.
A bit spritzy in its carbonation, the beer is light, but has a fullness to it that keeps it from being watery. The hops have a sharpness and perhaps an astringency to it, but this certainly has a bitter bite. The malt provides a dusty, cracker like pale malt character and it mixes with the floral hop character to contribute a soft honey like note. The beer is quite dry, with more of a malt fullness than a malt sweetness. Herbal hop notes provide a touch of grassiness, as well as a touch of sharp menthol, some tree sap leaning towards pine notes, and a hop fruit character that at times struggles to come through the dryness that this beer has; this last contributes flavors of lychee, kumquat, fruity-floral peach. Hot alcohol notes lean a bit towards curing plastic in the finish, and really is what makes this a bit harsh, and even tongue numbing in a lingering sort of way.
I was hoping for a bit more here, this is not a bad beer, but in the end it doesn’t quite mesh together, and the hotness / plastic notes in the finish are what makes this disjointed. The malt character and hops are really quite nice, and if the yeast character had played along this would have been quite spectacular. If this was intended to be purely bottom-fermenting / Lager yeast used here, then something unintended has clearly happened to this beer. I have a feeling it is only going to get more phenolic and hot with time, so I would recommend drinking this sooner rather than later.

Light hazy, orange, smell hazy. Very aromatic citric character, well developed. Just enough bitterness, just enough malt backup. Accessible bit still flavourful, quite an achievement. Well carbonated. Well made. (At the De Molen tasting)
