COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rookop is a brown, top-fermented ale that is not sweet, with coffee in the flavour and a fine, mild bitterness. Rookop used to be brewed in the St-Joris brewery in Reningelst, Belgium until 1963 when the brewing activities stopped. The brewery was restored back to its original condition in 2012 and now functions as a meeting centre for families with children. We were asked to bring this famous beer back to life. Since the original recepy could not be recovered, a brand new beer was developed.

Bière brune foncée avec reflets roux, opaque. Mousse courte, humide, faible tenue, aspect écumeux.

250 ml bottle at home, poured into a tulip. ABV 6.5% Dark brown pour, with a tall and thick brown head sitting on top, with okay retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Very nice aroma, very fruity, mostly dark fruits, also some ripe pears. A bit of caramel too, nuts, chocolate malts. Nice taste too, basically following the aroma, fruity, sweet, some caramel and a bit of spices and yeast. Medium thin body, carbonation on good levels. Sticky palate. Overall quite good.

Bottle kindly shared by Rubin77 at a tasting in his flat. Lots of fruitiness, dark fruits, raisins. Thin bodied and well drinkable. Not too complex yet not too simple. Good one.

Bottle at home. Pours clear red-brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with some subtle earthy hop. Sweetish taste with a very gentle bitterness. Flavours of roasted malt, nut and chocolate with more earthy hop, almost like leaf-mulch. Sweet finish with just a hint of dryness. A nicely balanced, tasty beer.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2015 75cl bottle from Poperingse Bierfestival 10/2014, brewed 05/2014. Dark acajou-brown pour with again a luscious cap. Rich earthy aroma of caramel roast, bread crust, fragrant fresh bread, an inkling of strawberry and meadow hops. Taste is a well-balanced mix of all that, surprisingly dry and rich. Popering hop bite with great character in the finish. Nice Flemish Dunkel!

Dark brown colour. Aroma and flavour have caramel, dark roasted malts and some bready notes too. Some hints of bitter coffee in the aftertaste.

Light cloudy dark brown beer, no head. Hoppy aroma mixed with roasted malts. Caramel, light chocolate and light banana. Fresh hoppy flavour, light bitter, some roasted malts. Fresh fruity finish, with herbal notes of fresh green leaves. Quite nice.
