The sixth edition of the De Proef Brewmaster’s Collaboration Series is our first blended beer. Legendary brewer, Alan Sprints of Hair of the Dog joins Dirk Naudts at De Proef to create this unique bottle conditioned beer. Flanders Fred is a blend of Flanders-sourced lambic with a collaboratively-brewed version of the famous Hair of the Dog Fred. The result is a deep golden ale topped with a creamy off white head. The nose is complex with notes of lemon, pine, tropical fruits and spice. The palate is rich and layered with toffee, apricot and almond, balanced by some green apple, a hoppy bitterness and barnyard funk. Please enjoy Flanders Fred with food and friends. This beer should pair very well with many cheeses, roasted vegetables and grilled meats. We believe this bottle will continue to evolve beautifully over the next few years, adding a subtle blending of the flavors.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2018 Pours pale copper brown with within head. Aroma is typical of a Flanders, funky notes mixed with Oak and Cherry and vanilla, but this one adds some dry Citrus to the mix that I don't usually get from the style. Typical Flanders on the front of the flavor, but the Finish is dry, lean, and bold.

Side by side with 08 Fred Flanders at Baileys Taproom Portland. Pours out amber cola color topped with a small head. Nose is light sour notes Brett berries apples and some spice malts. Taste is more of the nice spice malts sour Brett kick and fruit.

Bottle, shared at Northern Monk. Hazy, pale amber. Skim of white. Nose has cherry stone. Almond. Cherry juice. Some woody notes. Taste is sweet and fruity, with some woody, tart, dry qualities. Bit of a gluey mouthfeel. Light tart finish. Ok.

On Tap slightly hazy orange. Trace head and lacing. Tart and rather bitter. Fairy hoppy for a flanders "red"

750 ml caged and corked bottle, 2016 vintage (Limited Re-Release). Served in a MadTree Teku, the beer pours a hazy burnt orange color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around for a while. There’s also a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like apricot, lemon, funk, red berries, and sweet spiciness. Taste is similar to the aroma, there’s lemon, green apple, tart berries, funk, grainy malt, oak, mineral and some caramel flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and is well carbonated. It’s also easy enough to drink. I thought this was a good enjoyable wild ale, I missed it the first time it was released but glad I was able to pick up a bottle this time around. Definitely worth a try! $14.99 a bottle.

750ml corked bottle, 2016 vintage. Lemony aroma with notes of pine, Brett funk and green apple. Pours dark golden colored with one finger of white head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with lemony citrus flavor with notes of pine and sweet tropical fruit. Finishes smooth and dry with tart green apple and spicy Brett funk. Very nice.

Hazy deep golden under a thin foamy white top. Lovely bright aroma of pine and lemon and sour funk and barleywine-esque malts. Smooth and gently sour flavor that’s a little lemony, tropical, gentle sourness, gentle apricot and a gentle nutty English malt. Really smooth and damn tasty and too complex for me to break down into words.

Tap at the Answer. Funky and sour smell a hint of gum. Flavor is tart and funky as well. Caramel color with nice head. Pretty smooth for a sour.

Skinnyviking (9908) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 6, 2016
Draught at Falling Rock. High fluffy off-white lasting head. Hazy red body. Powerful sour fresh acidic berries aroma and flavor with a low carbonation and a long finish.
