Bottle shared by Travlr: pours clear deep bronze with a thin spotty-lacing whitehead. Has a lightly sweet toasted caramel nose with some floral honey and a touch of clove. Starts with good fullness and sweet rich toasted caramel and biscuity malts along with some yeasty esters before a complex warming finish. Pretty flavorful, but could use some time to age.
One of three super strong barleywines commissioned by a well-known restaurant in Nevele, the strength being attained by champagne yeast, always an interesting feature in this kind of beers. Loose, egg-white, irregular head, quickly reduced to a thin rim around the edge of the glass; cloudy coppery bronze robe with orangey and ’rusty’ hue, cloudy with strings of fine bubbles on the edges, and a whole lot of yeast and protein bits floating throughout. Very strong aroma - even noticeable from a yard away and I was sitting outdoors - of old sweet sherry, brown bread, sundried tomatoes, brown rum, rusty oxidation, chicken broth, gingerbread, brown sugar, cognac, ripe banana, overripe peach, marmelade. Very sugary sweet taste, honeyish with lots of ripe fruit esters (banana, peach, blue plum, medlar), sourish undercurrent providing a bit of balance against this heavy sweetness, champagne-ish carbonation, thick, vinous and rounded bready middle, caramelly with still that sugary sweetness thickly covering it, bit sticky even, but eventually dried by strong, warming, brandy- and sherry-like alcohol, which somehow manages to avoid strong astringency, though obviously it is undeniable; some light, ’dim’, earthy hoppiness as well and, unsurprisingly, spicy and bready yeast flavors. Too messy and too yeasty, with the proteins producing broth- and chicken-like off-flavors which shouldn’t be there, but otherwise a rich, sweet barleywine, interesting, with the champagne yeast adding some complexity. kraddel (8890) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - APR 16, 2016
Pours muddy amber. Small white head. Smell is intense, sharp, bit bitter, madeira. Taste is sweet, thick , booze, clinical alcohol-taste. Sweet underneath, It’s drinkable, but the clinical booze is nowhere near nice, and I am wondering why they forced themselves to get it in... it’s more har, and more expensive, and way less good now... madmitch76 (25568) - , Essex, ENGLAND - MAR 1, 2015

Bottleshare at Leighton’s flat. Hazy deep gold beer, small cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Sweetish malts, light caramel - toffee. Alcohol spicy mid. Dried fruits and touches of sherry and brandy. Spicy dry finish with the alcohol spice lingering on.
Bottle shared at the ’Beers of London’ Tasting MkII, Bespin Cloud City - Hyde Park zone, thanks to King Ken of Kloppa Kasteel 11/02/15.
Lightly hazed orange amber with a moderate off white coverng that quickly dissipates.
Nose is fruit rind, phenols, spice, yeast, booze fumes, cake mix, dates, light must.
Taste comprises rich fruit strokes, yeast esters, dates, almond, candied fruit peel.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming booze in the close but not 16% worth.
Hmmm... doesn’t deliver much for the ABV in terms of flavour, drinkable sipper I guess but just another boozey Belgian bore in essence! mR_fr0g (13511) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2015
Bottle shared at Leightons pad. Light hazed golden coloured pour with a small white head. Aroma is earthy straw, solvent hot alcohol, light caramel. Flavour is composed of spicy, light caramel, honey, caramel, little dried orange peel, raisin. Palate is semi sweet, medium full, moderate carbonation. Not a huge fan of this. Lingering caramel, whisky and oak.

Bottle share thanks to Ken. Cloudy orange, some particles, small ring of white head. Aroma is toffee orange, crystalised ginger. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is oxidised, syrupy sweet, must, touch of alcohol coming through. Scopey (15725) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 12, 2015
Bottle thanks to Kenny. It pours hazy orange with a small white head. The nose is rich, orange sponge cake, toasty, oily orange, candy sugar, earth, sweet dough and some estery notes. The taste is bitter-sweet, boozy, earth, brioche, stewed orange, doughy, spice and some icing sugar with some warmth on the finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A big and brash boozy beverage. Fine in small doses. Leighton (22307) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 11, 2015
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Krazy Ken. Pours clear gold with a bubbly white head. The nose holds rich pale bread, some ripe citrus, faint caramel, light perfume. Big sweet flavor, lots of honey and caramel, sugary pale bread, tangerine, faint smoke. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some Earl Grey, lemon peel, caramel, pale bread. Very tasty stuff. Swaroga (2224) - Warszawa, POLAND - OCT 23, 2014
OCZY : piwo jest delikatnie mętne o kolorze pomarańczowym, z daleka coraz bardziej przypomina jasny brąz. Piana jest biała o średniej wielkości.
NOS : piwo ma mocne aromaty przetworzonych owoców i tarty. Z owoców wymieniłbym gruszki i białe winogrona. Do tego suszone jabłka. Tarta nasiąknięta alkoholem. Po wstrząśnięciu owoce wydają się bardziej świeże do tego nuty winne są coraz bardziej uwydatnione.
USTA : mało nasycone, podobne do barley wine piwo o gęstej konsystencji.
Piwo jest słodkie i alkoholowe. Bardzo przypomina barley wine i to dosłownie. Winne o mocnych nutach syropu, owoców i tarty. Delikatnie kwaśne. Alkohol delikatnie zatyka przy każdym łyku. Trochę przypomina wigilijny kompot z suszonych owoców z rumem.
ODCZUCIA : piwo jest ciekawe. Bardziej winne niż saksoński barley wine. Im cieplejsze tym lepsze. Trzeba go trochę "dotlenić" by alkohol troszeczkę złagodniał. Jestem ciekawy wersji leżakowanych w beczkach z odzysku.
