COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong blonde ale of about 8% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.
Previously 8.5% abv.

Pale golden beer with nose of resinous hops. Quite sharp and lemony in the mouth. Woody hops. Not bad but I was expecting more.

11.2 oz bottle. Cloudy golden/orange with a creamy white head. Aroma of lemon, sugar, and some musty barnyard. Flavor of light fruit, apricot and green apple with some hop bitterness and a lightly tart finish. Medium body with average carbonation and a clean, dry finish. Very fruity beer without having any fruit in it.

Reviewed from notes. Tasted from bottle. Pours a hazy light orange with a medium white head. The nose is yeast, lemon, and candi sugar. The flavor is more bitter and hoppy than expected with lemon pith, light sweetness, and a hint of nuts. The body is medium with average carbonation, and a long bittersweet and hot finish.
