The heaviest ale on our menu with a very rich taste, coming from the six different kinds of malt we use. These malts also give it that rich, dark, nearly black colour. The royal doses of Challenger and Saaz hops bring the typical balance between sweet and bitter.

January 2013. From bottle. Poured a cloudy reddish brown with a tan head. Roasted malts, dark fruit and yeast notes. Good stuff.

33 cl. bottle @ home. From Willems. No clear BBF date. Sure took me a while to rate this one. Label features text in many languages. Pours a dark ruby murky brown and a beige head which is very unstable, leaving only unappealing patches. Smell is very thick liquorish, soy sauce, very thick malts, lightly roasted and very sweet with oodles of candy sugar. Taste is bitter EU hops combined with rock candy, soy sauce, thick liquorish, candy sugar, thick sweet malts, cacao, thick molasses, thick black liquorish,… Lighter body than expected and a touch higher carb. Another well crafted beer by this guy although a bit outside of my personal preference this is very interesting for sure.

Bottle at Hot Club de Gand
Hazy dark red brown, tan head. Aroma and taste have overripe fruit, berries (black or red). Medium sweet, hint of cherry sourness. Dry. Medium body, quite high carbonation. Nothing I’d call a stout.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black. Nose has roasted tones, dark candi and some greenish hops. Body is medium full, porter-like roasted flavours with candi, again. Not much alc coming through. Quite nice. Belgian yeastyness, roasted tones. A good dark belgian strong, somewhat inbetween a quad/double and porter.

Sweet and lightly toasted carmel aromas permeate the beer. The apearance is very light comared to most stouts, it looks more like a brown ale than a stout. It is also more fruity than most stouts thanks to the belgian yeast. It is a nice take on a Belgian style stout but not really what I’m looking for in a stout.

Dark murky reddish-brown colour, sizeable creamy off white head; aroma of yeasty effervescence; rich fruity flavour balanced by lightly roasted malt body; smooth, thick; really nice roasted finish; warming and very enjoyable.

You can tell as soon as you smell this brew that it is going to be a very interesting experience. Aromas of toasted malt, yeast, caramel, and some dried fruits. Very complex mouth feel too. The balance on this beer is perfect not too sweet but not overly bitter. Just a really complex beer. Rich and robust.
