COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Cloudy orange beer with a large white bubbly head that fades to a constant thin covering, aroma is citrus and hoppy with a slight caramel but hoppy taste. For a Xmas beer far from the best.

11.2floz bottle, BBD: 08.08.2018, paid around $1.50 as a single sale price. Poured into a tulip glass, where a sticky beige head forms atop a murky rust colored body. The aroma is of simple sugary light/amber malts. Medicinal tasting, Belgianesque but not overly defining. Mineral aftertaste. Glad I got this on sale, because it would be disappointing at full price. Passable basic ale, but not something that fits any drinking situation when other options are going to be readily available.

F: medium, egg-white, not long lasting. C: amber, hazy, yeasty debris. A: malty, fruity, caramel, nice hoppy, bit apple, bit yeasty. T: malty, fruity balanced with good hoppy bitterness, bit caramel, yeasty, peppery, medium body and carbonation, very good not heavy sweet and spicy, I like it, 0,33l bottle from Spar supermarket in Oostende.

Bottle. Muddy copper-caramel color with a small effervescent beige head. Aroma of bread, toffee and a little spice. Tastes bready and medicinal. Dry, medium bodied, with a little fizz.

Piepenhenrich (1230) - Steinbach, GERMANY - SEP 15, 2017
Pours hazy amber-golden with a medium head. Aroma of fruit and hops. Taste is pure hoppy bitterness. Not bad, if you like bitter Ales, but I was expecting a fruity note or other, more complex elements.

750mL bottle. Pours darkish gold with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is bread, citrus, spice, toffee, and yeast. Taste is sweet and bitter; bread, toffee, spice, resin, some earthiness, and a light fruitiness. Moderately drying. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Fluffy, slightly sticky mouthfeel.

Handypaul (581) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - MAY 1, 2017
Bottle. Pours brown with a beige, small, quickly diminishing head that leaves poor lacing. Aroma of burnt sugar. Light body, average carbo, light bitter, flavors of clove, butter rum, alcohol leading to a brief, medium sweet, sticky finish. Not that exciting.

In de commercial descriptie staat: his one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers. Maar dat betekent ook dat het noch het een noch het ander is. Het bier is dus vrij flauw vergeleken met twee voorgenoemde bieren. Smaakt nogal ’commercieel’ middle of the road.

Bottle. BBE date Oct 2013; Drank May 2009 - Hazy Orangey Gold in colour. Very hoppy; earthy, spicy, peppery hops. Yeasty; lots of sediment, leathery. Fruity; citrus-fruity, lemon and grapefruit. Extremely bitter hoppy and sharp. Very dry bitter finish. Rather too sharp. (2009-05)
