21 Oct 2012 in Valkenburg, Holland: Cafe De Grendelpoort is having a Bockfest and this was one of the brews on-tap.
Dark reby red in colour with a tan foaming head.
Sweet malty molasses rule the taste and smell as most Bocks do, this was slightly sweeter than most though and a bit thicker and stickier in the body. The beer becomes more interesting as it warms a little, dark fruit notes appear in the aroma and taste, caramel becomes detatched from the other malt flavours and a mild hoppiness pops up at the end of each sip.
I think I tried all the Bocks during the weekend and I enjoyed this one about the best.
Along with Yves at his home brown colored body with a off white head and a spicy malt hops aroma a spicy malt hops herby sweet bitter taste with a bitter finish Yves (3097) - Turnhout, BELGIUM - NOV 20, 2016
Shared with wim at his home. Brown colored beer with small off-white head and no carbonation. Full sparkling palate. Finish is sweet sugar malty. TtV (464) - Nijmegen, NETHERLANDS - NOV 5, 2016
Bottle 33cl. Dark brown with a tiny off white head. Little aroma, some malts. The taste has grain and gets more bitter in the aftertaste. Nothing special, but not bad. blackisle (2708) - Amsterdam IJburg, NETHERLANDS - MAR 17, 2016
Bottle 33cl. Poured into a teku glass. Dark amber brown, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, minimal lacing; aroma roasted malts, burnt caramel, ripe dark fruits (berries, cherries), spicy notes; taste light heavy sweet and medium bitter, roasted malts, caramelized fruits, sugary, with a long duration, sweetbitter malty finish with cocoa and alcohol notes; medium body, oily texture, average carbonation; though a bit harsh on the palate a decent bock. Zwarte kleur zoals je van een bock gewend bent. Flinke romige schuimkraag erop. Bier is zacht van smaak maar wat waterig in de nasmaak. rlgk (18851) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 26, 2015
Buttle thanks to Andreas and Suntiha. Clear dark amber beer with a decent beige head. Malty caramel aroma, bready, biscuits, some fruits. Bready flavor, caramel, dark bread, some warming alcohol. TrefwoordPunk (1281) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - JUN 24, 2015
Bottle 33 cl, bottled sept 2012, small gusher. Pours a dark purplish brown without a head and with an aroma of roasted malts, toffee, brown sugar, gingerbread, milk chocolate and nuts. The taste is medium sweet, carbonation is almost gone, maybe this one is a bit over it’s best date. teorn88 (7682) - Rimini, ITALY - DEC 29, 2014
