strong alchol smells but very nice black as all hell color flavour is a molassesy roasty flavor that gradually gets more and more tastey the further you get in
Dead Frog Commander Reserve 2013.
Bomber, 2014 vintage. Rich roasted malt aroma with notes of licorice, molasses, anise and oak. Pours inky black with a thin mocha brown head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavor with notes of molasses and anise as well as a full body and viscous mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with strong licorice flavor as well as some oak. Pretty good, but a little unrefined. DuffMan (10278) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 19, 2017
Bottle 422/600 with a red wax seal, brought by Ferris to RBAG winter event. Very dark brown, beige head. Burnt sugars and burnt malt, light Islay smoke/peat, birch syrup, salt licorice, with intrusive higher notes of iodine and ammonia. Kind of all over the place. Not very palatable after several sips. beerplace (1603) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 15, 2017
650ml bottle from Pacific Liquor store in PoCo. Commander Reserve 2013, bottle #553 of 600. Pours an almost black with a brown head. Aroma is dark fruits, roasted malt, some vanilla, leather, roasted seeds and chocolate notes. Taste is pretty the same with low to moderate sweetness and low bitterness. Slightly dry, dark roasted malt, some chocolate notes aftertaste. Very good! ljthiessen (1326) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 7, 2016
Bottle. Dark, nearly black pour with a small beige head. Aroma is malty chocolate with hints of vanilla and dark fruit. Taste is chocolate, some roasty notes, hints of coffee and cherry. Not bad flavour, but quite light for the style and ABV... Thin and not well balanced.

Pours a nice semi dense black with brown foamy head. I didn’t get much of the barrel in this. In fact, if they would have left out the part about barrel aging I would have rated this higher. It’s actually a really good imperial stout. Beautiful dark chocolate aromas and flavors. I love the bitter cocoa finish on this. Maybe a touch of maple. No booze. Well made... But where is the barrel influence? dreamflower (790) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 27, 2016
Bottle shared with northropfrye. Not really an intense aroma, faint molasses. Apperance is really dark, but the head dissipates really quickly. Taste is sort of like a bitter coca cola. Palate is a bit weak. I was probably expecting something a little more commanding from an imperial stout. northropfrye (3515) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - FEB 27, 2016
Dark brown body, brown foamy head, some lacing. Lactose, milk chocolate, roast malts, dark chocolate aroma, but not super pronounced. Taste is sweet, touch of milk chocolate, some cocoa, a touch of woodiness. Abv well masked, really not evident that this is 10.5 at all. I would have guessed much lower. Over all, not the greatest imperial stout, but decent. Almost more of a milk stout I would say. daniele (9021) - ITALY - JAN 20, 2016

Where does this "2" score come from? There must be some technical issue with this beer rating. Anyway it pours as car oil black, minimal brown head. Aroma is straight to bourbon barrel and licorice. Taste adds vanilla and dark fruits. Low bitter finish. Quite good!
