Our Winter Beeracle is a warm, deep mahogany ale with rich, complex malt flavours and a sweetness to compliment the season. The warmth of the beer is punctuated by deep malt flavours from chocolate malts, a hint of vanilla in the aroma and flavour, and a dry citrus finish. All the flavours come together to create a rich, delicious winter ale.

This beer is a brand new recipe for Dead Frog Brewery and it will be replacing the previous ’Christmas Beeracle’ that we had as our Winter Ale.

Ingredients: Water, malted barley, hops, yeast, vanilla extract, orange peel
Malts: 2 Row, Biscuit, Cara 60, Chocolate
Hops: Cascade, Perle

First batch: November 2012

Poured from 650mL bottle. Medium mahogany brown colour with minimal white head. Aroma of sweet vanilla, cloves, and chocolate malts. Taste is predominantly milk chocolate, light though, not creamy. Has a mild hop finish.

I don't know... the initial taste of this is ok. It DOES have that nice winter ale taste, but the aftertaste is just awful. It seriously tastes like windex in a plastic bottle. I will not buy this again, but maybe this is just the first step in a decent beer? Who knows, but for now, yuck.

Almost opaque dark brown color, with a copper hue, and tons of activity. Thick foamy and frothy light brown 3 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with faint legs and good lace. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, toffee, nuts, nutmeg, ginger, mint, dark malts, vanilla, herbal spices. Thick bready and molassy sweetness with coarse bitter festive spices. Oily medium body with light prickly and soft crispy carbonation. Strong finish, lots of red ale spices, bitter burnt cereal malts and earthy hops, ends with a nice walnut and mocha feel. Inviting original smell. Nice for the holidays. Feels a little dull and not well bodied. Quite bold and lacking freshness, very acidic and a soft vinous feel, but at it’s least warming. The flavors are decent but lacks balance. The intensity is a little off and not particularly pleasant to drink. At least the lasting after taste is enjoyable. Overall above average quality craft.

Pours black in color. Some aromas of vanilla. Taste has some chocolate and mocha notes. Bit of booze as well. Nice winter ale

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Lingering fruity, molassessy taste and aroma, but subtle. Didn’t get as much aroma. It’s not the best I’ve ever had but I liked it.

northropfrye (3732) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - DEC 9, 2016
Dark brown body, brown head, good retention, some nice soapy lacing. Nice aroma of sweet strawberries, cherries, vanilla, roast malts, lactose. Taste is on the sweet side, strawberry milk with a dark dry roast finish. Does taste a bit artificial, but over all, I quite enjoyed it.

Bottle. Black pour with a small beige head. Sweet caramel and candied fruit, raisin, cherries, medium bodied. Simple, a little sweet in the finish, nothing crazy.

Drinking from a 650 cl bottle. In the aroma chocolate, mocca and alcohol. The clear brown beer has a small brown head. In the taste coffee and chocolate. Medium carbonated.

DeanF (2647) - Quebec, CANADA - DEC 21, 2015
Has a thin head with kind of a dark lager body that’s got modest carbonation. Aroma is caramel and syrup, some ginger spice. Flavour is a heavy smoked feel with notes of hazelnut with slight spice finish, hints of swamp. Kind of cloying mouthfeel. Just about average for a darker seasonal brew.

mcberko (19869) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 30, 2014
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a deep dark amber-tinged brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of chocolate, with notes of cinnamon further back. Flavour is surprisingly nice, with loads of sweetened chocolate dominating. Not getting a whole lot else of the other spices in here. Kind of a cheap gimmicky beer, but I think this is done very well. Enjoyable fun beer.
