from notes. had this one from draft. pours pitch black with a beige head. i still remember that the aroma was very unpleasant. dark malts some earth notes, dark fruits, chocolate and oak. with a strong wine taste.
Bottle @ home.marrone carico, quasi nero, schiuma marrone nocciola, fine non molto persistente. Aroma tostato, leggermente fruttato, uva macerata, quasi appassita, leggermente pungente, poco di frutta secca, maltato. note di salamoia delle olive. Gusto decisamente acidulo, tostato, abboccato, ma subito vira su amaro da tostatura. Non molto complesso ne troppo fine. Non avverto ne legno ne vaniglia. 330 ml bottle from Steve’s Liquor and More (Junction Road) in Madison, WI, sampled at cellar temp in a St. Ambroise glass. Big fizz when I popped he cap, and it pours a huge gout of swiss-cheese tan head that decays quickly above the tawny dark translucent body...nose is mostly red wine, raisins, a hint of dark chocolate, a bit too sharp, even vinegary, though as it warms it softens and a bit of sweet caramel appears...the wine character is not nearly as pronounced in the body, though it’s still there, souring slightly and thinning significantly a decent roasted malty body...little in the way of apparent hops, this is a sweet & sour, roasty & vinous Impy rather than a bitter one, and while that’s a nice change from the usual American version I don’t get a whole lot of Belgian yeast character either, and the body is ultimately a bit dull and lifeless. Clear dark black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, wine - red wine, moderate roasted, moderate chocolate, wood, dark fruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart, red wine, roasted, wood, warm alcohol. IMO not very balanced. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic.
