Tap at Craft & Growler. Pours a murky maroonish red-brown color with a light beige head. Aroma is wood, must, dark fruit and raisins with a heavy malt smell. Flavor is fairly nice, a little hot, woody, malty and sweet with a hot, bitter finish. Needs age big time.

Ruddy brown pour with some tan head. Nose of oak, toffee, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar sweetness. Flavor follows suit - boozy but not overly so. Barrel aging evident in the woody finish.
Well... it’s been a long day and what a better way to reward myself for making it through the day than by indulging in a barleywine? Let’s feel comfortably numb. Murky garnet brown in color with a dense light brown head, it smells rich and sweet, malt to the extreme, with fruity, almost estery English-style aroma (thanks to some English yeast) that starts to scream Old Ale or English Barleywine.
Once in the mouth some grainy, fibrous, wet wood surfaces, followed by a sweet, rich, dense alcohol and malt flavor with concentrated raisins. I can’t believe how wonderfully perfect this beer is. It’s in-league style-wise with Anchor Old Foghorn, but much smoother and well-flavored. Congratulations, Deep Ellum... you’ve managed to continue your streak of surprising me.
It finishes almost with a feeling of crystallized alcohol and caramel malts, topped with a faint touch of earthy, resinous hops. I can’t believe how good this beer is. This is the kind of beer that I’d gladly wait a week to drink.
