Brown without much head. The aroma is orange and coriander. Flavor I’d pretty much the same as in not much going on.

some warming with dark fruit, fig and dash of cocoa. some fullness in the palate and good enough barley and malt flavor. does seem different from last time sampled.

on tap at Defiant. Dark browin in color. Medium sized head. Aroma is malty, with spice and light notes of fruit. Taste is moderately sweet with raisin, citrus, dark malts and spices. Medium bodied. Has that defiant yeasty "house" character.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Divided opinions on this one! I rather liked it. Aroma of earthy malt, tartness, a plethora of light, citrus, and red fruits. Flavor sweet fruitiness with a balancing tartness. I seemed to get a lot of tartness that others haven’t mentioned...perhaps I got tartness from the spices? Or did this get infected along the way? Am I rating a beer very high that was infected? I really have no idea. I liked whatever the hell I was tasting.

This was a very dark brew. Nose was spice all over, but the taste was not over whelming. As it warmed the spices grew to an almost over the top, but It stopped short. Great christmas brew!

HighlanderOne (1330) - York, SC via NJ, South Carolina, USA - DEC 26, 2010
Poured from big bottle. Nice aroma of toffee, malt, smoke, brown sugar. Solid mahogany color, tan head fades. Flavors of toffee, vanilla, spice, orange peel, dark honey, alcohol. Earthy, heady aftertaste. Nice feel- not too carbonated. A bit off at finish. Overall a fine winter brew - appropriately drank during blizzard of 12/26/2010.

On Cask at the Brazen head, Brooklyn...This beer was dark brown, with a tan head and small bubbles. It is very, very smokey - almost like salami, bacon. It is kind of funky that way, since there are so many sweet malts, and is even sugary - brown sugar and molasses abound! There is a slight alcohol burn.

Sampled at the brewery and again in a growler. Murky, dark brown color with a creamy, thin beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, dark, dried fruits, pine and light spice. Flavor was lightly roasted malt, molasses, dark chocolate, raisins, pine, nutmeg and vanilla.

Dark copper color with no head. Rich malty nose. Full flavor, ’big’ like a dubbel, alcoholic. A bit bready and spicy. Nice flavor and body.

Bottle from Rockland Beverage split with Tommy on Christmas. Pours a deep reddish brown with a light caramel hue and small to medium beige head. Aroma is immediate red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar, with some spicy notes. Smells nice. Palate is a mix of spice, vegetable, dried fruit and malt. Earthy character to it. I wish it were a little more balanced or carbonated. Medium to heavy mouthfeel.
