This brown pour is very malty and sweet. The aroma has notes of caramel. It has an unexpected hop finish and is overall very drinkable. HoppityHop (206) - New Jersey, USA - APR 16, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2009 Faint aroma of roasted malts, with no hop presence in either the aroma or flavor. Carbonation is mild, flavor is non-existant, with the exception of burnt caramel. I like this brewery, and even gave this beer a second try.........but still can’t really find anything good to say about this one, sorry. mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - FEB 24, 2008
On cask at Brazen Head. Deep copper orange in color with no head. Fruity hoppy aroma. Malty caramel notes. Hoppy earthy flavor. Sweet tasting. Finish is malty. Medium bodied. Decent beer. Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - NOV 24, 2007
The only real flaw I find with this beer is the fruitty hop taste. Easily the best Defiant beer I’ve had. I Saarlander (1686) - Saarlouis, GERMANY - SEP 23, 2007
Some Earthy aroma, some very slight fruit, but otherwise a lackluster brew, expected more from the brew, maybe I will have a chance to try again, as this is the first brew from Defiant that has dissappointed.

Thans to Saarlander for sharing.
Musty/earthy aroma with not much flavor haukur (1957) - Reykjavik, ICELAND - JUN 2, 2007
fitting name, clody and "muddy". very dark amber, hoppy and malty. Typical american micro lager, with a dark edge to it jimmack (1223) - Nutley, New Jersey, USA - APR 28, 2007
Sampled from a keg at Joeec5’s house. Hazy dark amber color with a medium sized off white head. Mildly sweet malty aroma with some caramel and grassy hops. Flavor was lightly sweet, with a nice nuttiness and caramel notes to the malt. Mild hop bitterness on the finish. Very drinkable. dunkelbitte (20) - New Jersey, USA - APR 27, 2007
On tap at a specialty bar in Bagota, NJ. I thought it was delicious. I’m a sucker for carmelly malt, and this one’s got it in spades. It could stand to be a little more viscous, but for an American dunkel, it’s pretty nice. DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 21, 2007
Bottle from Lou18 via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours turbid deep coppery/brownish with a big, fluffy, off-white head. The head is louder than a two-bit whore who’s just been stiffed. The aroma is caramel malty, with some citrus (orange, tangerine), hops, and slight spicy notes. The flavor is caramel malty with a solid hop bill, mid-palate mango, tangerine, and black pepper, and some finishing cognacy notes. Very complex in flavor and aroma, with an extremely lively, well balanced fruity and hoppy palate that provided some aromas and flavor hints that I seldom see in lagers, but would like to see more of.
