Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

A very distinct oatmeal aroma, with a deep pour and thin caramel head . Serves excellent as a digestif, but why the milky bottle?

27. 10. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. Dark, dark red colour, with big fluffy head with low, low retention. Aroma hints a souerness. Taste is quite unique, more to the malty sweet side. Hops and bitternes are barely noticable. Mouthfeel is fluid, med to high carb. Complex beer that evolves during drinking. Love it.

07-OCT-2017, bottle @home, from Arnes Bottleshop, Westmarket, with Ulkløbben. Hazy brown with a lasting off-white head. Sugary, caramel, licorice, roasted. Bitter, very sweet. Not all that good.

01-10-2017; 0,75l bottle; at home. The looks of the beer are nice. The beer has a nice dark brown colour, with some hints of coppery red. The beer seems cloudy. On top of the beer a nice layer of yellowsih brown soft creamy foam is formed. Foam retention is average. After a while a nice soft drape is left. Nice looks. The smell of the beer is very nice. It reminds me of some more Belgian Strong Ales. It has something in common with Rochefort. I like it. The smell is full and strong. I smell nice sweet malts, with aromas of caramel, syrup, sugar, a twist of liquorice. Nice. There are also some nice biter hop aromas. Besides this, there are nice creamy yeasty aromas. A bit doughy and creamy, nice. Good smell. The taste is nice. There are some nice sweet malts, with hints of caramel, sugar, syrup, some liquorice. There is also a nice bitter holiness there. There are some mild tones of chocolate and coffee, very mild though and mainly bitter. The last thing I taste is a nice full creamy yeast flavour. It is well balanced. Nice. The palate of the beer is nice. Full body, smooth, creamy and high carbonation. The finish contains nice sweet malts, warming alcohol and some bitter hops. Also nice in balance. The alcohol gives a nice tingly sensation on the tongue. All in all, a very good beer. Typical Belgian.

Un toque tostado, pero suave a la garganta. De espuma duradera y de color parduzco. Una cerveza negra muy diferente a todas las demás.

maekchu (4054) - Hirakata, JAPAN - SEP 27, 2017
Bottle from local Sake Marche store. Malty nose, with some spice, berries, yeast, and light alcohol fumes. Dark red-tinged brown color under a thick, long-lasting, beige head. Very thick lacing. Flavors of dark fruit, cola, tree bark (some indeterminate herb), and a light touch of bitterness in the finish. Full body, lightly warming. Not terrible but neither is it so impressive for a big Belgian strong ale. Pretty hot and not so much in flavor to fill it out. It does have a range of aromas and flavors, but they don't really add up to much.

meatmanmd (182) - Chisinau, MOLDOVA - SEP 24, 2017
Reddish brown with big beige head. Aroma is spicy sweet with dark fruit and caramel. Taste is light sweet with red wine tannins and sourness, woody bitter finish. Medium body with some alcohol bite. Nicely balanced and complex.

nathanvc (708) - Brugge, BELGIUM - SEP 14, 2017
At Cambrinus, Bruges. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, big, frothy, tan head. The aroma contains caramel, dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits, licorice, hops and spices. It tastes medium sweet and light bitter, ending almost cloying and a bit hoppy and spicy.; warming aclohol. Medium body, oily/slick texture, soft fizzy carbonation. Can't shake the feeling that something's off, it could have been better, perhaps in want of more richness...
