Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

Bougie thing to quaff this bougie beer from my bougie pink elephant. But I do love the glass, and the beer, it aint bad either, even if it is a mood brew.

STYLE: Belgian Strong Dark Ale

ABV: 8.5%

LOOK: Dark mirror. The only light in the house thats on is the one in the dining room, that and my laptop. Theres a nice reflection from my most-stolen-in-America tulip, with credit to this dark, dark brew. Beachy thin head with a light caramel tinge. Subtle carbonation.

NOSE: Roasted raisins, molasses, sugar cookies, apple cider vinegar.

MOUTH: A recent trip to Napa clued me in to a wine secret. That some of the better wines are better enjoyed after opening up in a decanter for up to 24 hours. Ive done the hour-before-guests come thing, but a day, that seemed overkill. Until I tried it. Its the same principle for some of the better Belgians, including this one. Honey, malted chocolates, plums, dried cranberries. Theres more here, obviously, but thats not the point. Somewhere the sweet yeasts are hiding, maybe with the tucked-away ABV, and notwithstanding the complex flavor profile and top-class warming mouth, I need a touch more tartness for balance.

Red brown color with big head. Aroma: caramel, bread, orange and spices with small alcohol tone. The first impression was bubblegum, but it disappears after a while Semi-dry with a little bit of sourness.

0.33 bottle from Auchan. Dark reddish, beige head. Aroma is caramel and sweet malts combined with fruity notes. Some dark fruits also present. Taste is sweet, carbonation is medium-high. Flavors are malty and a bit spicy. Can also taste raisins, yeast notes, alcohol warmth. Good, but would not consume more than one in a session.

I dont really sense any of the following bitterness described in the Brewers Blurb, but its a solid BSA although I could perhaps do with a smidgen less diluted flavor

Poured out a dark brown with a tan head. The taste was caramel lightly spiced and overly sweet with a moderate bitterness. You wouldnt know it was high alc. Worth trying once but probably wouldnt buy again.

Typowe belgijskie ciemne.
