COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Colour and sight: Dark brown-red. A compact white-yellow, stable and lacing head. Scent: Touches of caramel, mocha and chocolate. Spices such as liquorice and coriander are also present. Flavour: Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.

Bougie thing to quaff this bougie beer from my bougie pink elephant. But I do love the glass, and the beer, it aint bad either, even if it is a mood brew.

STYLE: Belgian Strong Dark Ale

ABV: 8.5%

LOOK: Dark mirror. The only light in the house thats on is the one in the dining room, that and my laptop. Theres a nice reflection from my most-stolen-in-America tulip, with credit to this dark, dark brew. Beachy thin head with a light caramel tinge. Subtle carbonation.

NOSE: Roasted raisins, molasses, sugar cookies, apple cider vinegar.

MOUTH: A recent trip to Napa clued me in to a wine secret. That some of the better wines are better enjoyed after opening up in a decanter for up to 24 hours. Ive done the hour-before-guests come thing, but a day, that seemed overkill. Until I tried it. Its the same principle for some of the better Belgians, including this one. Honey, malted chocolates, plums, dried cranberries. Theres more here, obviously, but thats not the point. Somewhere the sweet yeasts are hiding, maybe with the tucked-away ABV, and notwithstanding the complex flavor profile and top-class warming mouth, I need a touch more tartness for balance.

11.2 oz. bottle that was a gift from my nephew Luke. Pours a hazy, somewhat muddy brown with a thin tan head. Very pleasant aroma of caramel, figs, and brown sugar. The flavor is a bit more subdued than the aroma with caramel, figs, brown sugar, Belgian yeast and a bit of alcohol heat. Mild bitterness at the finish. Very heavily carbonated which I think took away from both the flavor and the mouthfeel. Medium bodied.

750. Murky brown with a pillowy khaki head that leaves decent lacing. Aroma is full of dark stone fruits. Figs, plums, and raisins. Lots of Belgian yeast as well. Taste is fruity with dark stone fruit, lots toffee, and molasses. Heavily carbonated with a semi sweet finish.

Deep brown, clear, thick beige head. Aroma of ripe fruit, a bit rotten and metallic when cold and with more caramel after warming up. Lots of carbonation, sightly tart finish and watery body.
