Bab 2017. Thnx for sharing 77Ships and Tderoeck ! Pours dark brown, bit clear. Small white head. Smell is bit bitter, roasty. Some chocolate. Taste is sharp, yeasty, aromatic sugars (yet not too sweet) . Mild coffee aspects. Creamy. Perhaps a bit thin mouthfeel ( still acceptable ) OK beer in general.

Thank you for sharing tderock + kraddel! Sampled bottled @ Bruges Beer Festival 2017. Dark red brown, tanned head. Nose is sweet licorice, syrup de Liège, sugar, cloying. Taste is cloying, overly sweet, articial tasting dark fruits, soap, prune, syrup de Liège. Overly cloying, bag of sugar, syrup de Liège, chemical tasting, body is the same.

33cl bottle at Biermuseum Ertvelde, in Ertvelde-Evergem (13 VIII 2016) - the only place where to get this black sticky brew with yellow-white collar. This beer is brewed with Poperinge hops, and three kinds of malts: Pale-ale, munich and rost. In the nose one can already spot that malty character. In the flavours there are sugars and black Liegeois syrup too. The sugarness does remind of dextrose, adding some fruity hints to the aromas. The tastefeel is heavily sweet, medium bitter and has keen earth, turf and very strong coffee beans accents. The taste and body are quite strong, intense even, all this combined with a huge alcoholic warming at the start and at the end. The sweetness and coffee backbone are somewhat overpowered, making this atypical and appealing strong ale quite unbalanced. But all in all, a fine and strong bodied taste sensation.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2016 Den Tseut’s second beer since 2008, typical Belgian dubbel, also tasted as Beremietje Donker in Ertvelde’s former Biermuseum. Irregularly shaped, moussy, pale yellowish beige, slowly dissipating head over a cloudy chestnut brown beer wit mahogany reddish hue. Aroma of caramel, candied date, ripe banana, coriander, gingerbread, brown sugar, apple sauce, stewed beef (this beer is clearly teeming with proteins), dough, cocoa, pineapple. Sweet onset with slightly sourish edge and light umami accents, lots of fig, banana and overripe peach, a bit overcarbonated to the point where it becomes slightly numbing, slick caramelly malt sweetness in the middle, light toasted accent, herbal and earthy hop bitterish touch in the end but the brown sugar sweetness overlying the whole beer sticks a bit in the throat. Sweet-accented, classically designed Belgian dubbel, made interesting by these unintentional proteins lending it a somewhat ’beefy’ character.
