COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Proclaiming Denver to be one of the world’s great beer cities, Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock tapped a keg of pumpkin ale that he helped brew at the Denver Beer Company, and with a toast, kicked off Denver Beer Fest 2012 – a 9-day celebration of all things beer, presented by VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Mayor helped brew the beer on September 19, by grinding barley on a pedal-powered mill, shoveling out spent grain, tossing in pumpkins (grown at Denver Urban Gardens) and adding the all-important hops. Denver Beer Co. co-owners Charlie Berger and Patrick Crawford then worked their magic and two weeks later, the beer was ready to be served.

Murky burnt orange with a thin ring of head around the edge of the glass. Aroma had a lot of sweet pumpkin notes with a little too much nutmeg and other more subtle spices. The flavor, like most other pumpkin beers, gets bogged down with just too much pumpkin pie spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, with a malty backbone that’s earthy and sweet/bland with a pumpkin flavor running throughout. Pretty standard pumpkin ale.

On tap at Denver Beer poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of carmel, allspice, clove, cinnamon and light pumpkin. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of cvarmel, cinnamon, clove, allspice and light pumpkin with a smooth lingering spiced finish.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2012 My kind of pumpkin beer. Minimal lacing and head on an orange-brown full bodied ale. Light spice and roasted malt on the nose. Terrific earthy roast pumpkin flavor and dry, clean finish.
