On tap @ Depot Street Brewery tasting room. Pours a medium to dark clear brown amber, a little darker than expected, with a slight creamy head and nice lacing. Hint of raspberries upfront in the aromas with then a nice mild smokiness, toasted malts, and a very slight sour-type nose. Taste is light tart berries in the very front then the slight smokiness comes through. Complex, with a very slight Flemish Red likeness, but also like a brown ale and then some bitter in the finish. Wickedly different, very good. I wouldn’t want it in big doses but a pint here or there is great. SpringsLicker (3677) - Tennessee, USA - DEC 31, 2010
Draft at Brewgrass.
Garnet tinged brown body with an off-white head.
Funky sour aroma. Soured fruit.
Slightly tart flavor that goes into a dry finish without achieving full sourness.
Doesn’t really go anywhere. Not fully sour, not hoppy bitter, not sweet. Just kind of strange. lithy (2996) - Capital of Appalachia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 1, 2010
Brown-red, beige foam. Aroma is light seedy raspberry, light roasty . Taste is more seedy raspberry, light smoky, roast, ash, light touch of sour. Suttree (6504) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 20, 2010
Well, this was easily the most WTF beer of Brewgrass 2010. Definitely a "everything but the kitchen sink approach. Smokey? Check. Sour? check. Fruity? check. Not really sure how it all meshed, though. I liked it, regardless.
