Pours a deep dark brown from the bottle with hints of copper, bubbly tan head that dissipates fairly quickly to leave moderate lace. Aroma of big barrel vanilla notes, light dark fruit, molasses, and caramel sweetness. Taste is bigger on the vanilla barrel, bigger on the fruit, musty wine barrel, booze is definitely there, sweet barley wine base. 22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Nose is decadent and complex, with lots of red wine, dark fruits, liqueur and caramel. Flavour is elegant and complex as hell, with heaps of red wine barrel, liqueur, dark dried fruits and caramel. Nice oakiness to it, and a light warming effect that is never harsh. Just lovely stuff. This is an insanely complex brew, in all of the right ways. Aromas are dark and layered, with fruit, malt and whiskey. The pinot wine character comes through up front for me while the malt and whisky tones dance around. Very long, warming finish. The massive ABV is not at all hot, just well integrated. 650ml waxed bottle. Pours an unclear dark brown with a ruby hue and a small, short lived, tan head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, chocolate, light roast, dark fruit, vanilla , oak, molasses, cognac and whiskey. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, chocolate, dark fruit, licorice, vanilla, molasses, oak, cognac, whiskey and a hint of red wine with a dry, warming booze finish. Awesome, lots of complexity. A world class ASA.

UPDATED: AUG 12, 2017 August 11, 2017 - bottle from AV3. Dark brown pour with nice amount of head. Aroma was cognac, wood, whiskey, sweet and fruity. Taste was consistent with the aroma, but heavier on the whiskey than cognac. Finish had some subtle dry wine qualities.

Pours a murky burgundy, wispy ivory head. Aroma of wine barrels, cherry, molasses, a hint of a floral hop edge. Medium-full bodied. More molasses, wood, red grape peel, chocolate, caramel, cherry.... A: Dark mahogany with a creme color head.
N: Licorice, oak, caramel, leather, pine, ash, and smoke. Hint of molasses. Burnt brown sugar. Lots of candy sugar. Some brandy. Raisin, fig, and toffee. Maple syrup.
T: Very sweet and quite bitter at the same time. Definitely get the underlying beers here.
M: Medium-heavy body, a bit of alcohol, tingling carbonation, sticky.
O This is really nice. All the base beers show pu and add something to the mix. I bet this is even better in a few years. It is intense now, though.
