With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Its prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Bottle as shown. Pours a dark brown with a medium frothy light tan head that lasts awhile. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Good sticky lacing along the glass. Medium mothfeel with a roasted malt with a smoky flavor and sweet finish. A good porter from deschutes.

Pitch black coloured body with brown tints and a nice white head! Aroma of malt and coffee. Medium-bodied; Strong malt - not much else going on, however. Decent aftertaste mainly of light nuts and malt. Overall, decent, but not that great! I sampled this beer on draught at Kellys in Portland, Oregon on 09-September-2006.

Roasted, chocolatey, and slightly fruity aroma. The body is kind of thin and spritzy which detracts from the overall flavor. The taste is a little chocolate and dark fruit with a sharp, dry, roasted finish.

I saw this on sale for 12.99/12 today and thought what the hell? Nice black color with a light tan head. It smells roasty, malty and slightly meaty. The flavor is roasty and robust. I was really surprised at how strong the flavor actually was, nice. The drinkability is awesome, I killed one in about fifteen minutes (not normal for me). Deschutes is doing great things with their beers and I will be buying the Double Black Butte when it hits Colorado this summer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-14-2008 01:15:56

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Blackish brown color, good clarity, fluffy beige head. Decent lacing. Lots of coffee in the aroma with a little ash and balancing chocolate sweetness. Lightly acidic roasted character with some dark fruits and burnt coffee. Medium-light bodied with a little too much carbonation. Solid beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick mocha head, with slight lacing, over a clear dark (SRM 20) blackish brown body....nose heavy with coffee, bitter chocolate, mild hop....taste is dry with coffee, chocolate with a medium lingering bitter finish...mouth feel is medium, carbonation light...a nice rich roasted malty porter with malty bitterness to finish. Not as good as Fullers, but not far behind.

On tap at Pour 24 in LV. Pours a big thick black with little head. Great aroma of roasted grain, chocolate. Thick smooth roasted grain and chocolate taste. Really good porter and much bigger than your standard porter.

Bottle. Moderate malt and hop notes of toasted, light coffee, milk chocolate and resin, light note of earth for the yeast, with cola and tar in the background. Head is small, frothy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then finishes lightly acidic and bittersweet. Palate is medium, watery and has a lively carbonation. A good Porter, couldve been more complex, but an easy drinker.

Aroma: Complex aroma of roasted malts, burnet coffee, dried fruits and chocolate. Appearance: The beer poured deep, dark and brown with a tall tan head. The head crashed leaving a ring of head. Flavor: It tasted of dried fruits, roasted malts and burnt chocolate. It was surprising very malt. The bitterness framed the malty sweetness. Mouth Feel: A medium bodied beer with some effervescence. Overall Impression: The second beer tasted better than the first. An easy beer to drink, full flavored.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2010 Pours black with a khaki head. Aroma of chocolate and some coffee. Flavor is very smoky and just grows towards the finish. Also some dark chocolate and a bit of coffee. Medium to heavy carbonation, rich mouthfeel. A nice porter.
