COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

nqualls (1452) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 14, 2009
On tap at the Yardhouse in Las Vegas. Poured a dark brown/black color with a thin brown head. The aroma was of roasted malt, brown sugar and molasses. The flavor was roasty, with coffee and chocolate hints. This was full bodied and softly carbonated, with a creamy mouthfeel.

courtesy of googzoid10 for another OR beer. Pours black with tan head. Aroma of light roasted malts and molasses. Taste, same as aroma with added coffee and nutty notes. Finish is of light bitter hops. Light and easy to drink, Deschutes offers yet another amazing beer.

jedimasternick (96) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JAN 1, 2009
An absolute top notch performer and contender for world’s best porter. I have had many porters and this one sets the standard for all others to be judged. It has a hint of chocolate aftertaste and a full bodied dark black color. Yummmmm!

Bottle. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a one finger cream head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is light coffee, toasted malt and mild dark fruits. Taste is dark chocolate, earthy notes, ash and light hops in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Decent porter.

SuperDave (1932) - Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA - DEC 13, 2008
Pours a very dark brown, nearly black, with a lasting creamy head and some wet drippy lacing. Nice roasted malt and chocolate in the aroma. Flavor is the same, but seemingly bigger than the aroma. Smooth and nearly creamy on the palate. Not bad at all.
