COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Cold 12oz bottle: Pours a nice ruby brown color with a thin layer of light tan bubbles. Aroma is of rich malts with chocolate notes. Taste is of rich malts and chocolate. Watery texture and well carbonated with a dry ending.

Had it on tap at a tony aromas. Delish, very dark color lets very little light through. kind of a light flavor for being such a dark portor but its only 5.2%.

Pours better from a bottle due to bottle conditioning, aroma is nice sweet chocolate. I have experienced from both bottle and tap. BOTTLE is better with a pine hop finish and slight roastiness. For a robust porter this is a little on the weak side for me. Balance seems just right and I see myself drinking another. Overall a decent american robust porter.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Beautiful, clear mahogany with a warm reddish hue. Small, off-white head. Malty aroma with a lightly burned edge. Medium body with lightly sweet, hard roasted malt accents. Soft, malty finish. Pleasant. 211006

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with ruby hues and an average size tan head. Very nice aroma of roasted malt, coffee, lots of chocolate and hops. Flavour’s roasty and chocolaty with a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. Very good!

On tap. Pours a black color with a nice white head on top. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, raisins, and caramel. Flavor is nice and smooth with dark chocolate hitting the tongue mostly. Slight bitterness in there to keep it from being too sweet. A nice porter.

(07.25.06) 12 oz brown bottle from Liquid Solutions. Best by 8/24/06. 5.2% ABV. Lot 1158b. roasted malt aroma. Poured clear dark brown with small white head. Soft carbonation. Light –to -medium bodied ale that starts dry with roasted malt and fruitness (raisin?) flavors. finished dry with light roasted malt and some bitterness. Monodimensional in flavor complexity. Though on the thin side, this is a good drinkable porter.

One of my favorite porters. I love the aroma, and the complexity of the flavor, very rich, with hints of molasses.

A very tasty porter. Aroma somewhat faint, but rich roasted coffee flavor with a hint of molasses. Nice dark brown/black body with cola type head.

Had a nice roasted coffee flavor. The aroma was rather faint, but when you got up close to it, it was nice. Nice porter, but certainly not the best ever.
