COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Poured a nice deep brown. almost black, with a tan head. Not quite on the same level as Bully Porter, IMHO, but it really has some of the same coffee like bitterness, balance by the toasted malt/ chocolate flavor.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 Bottle from Decatrstevo. Had this in the fridge since October. I just kept passing over it. Black with no head. Wonderful coffee, coco, roasted malt aroma. The taste was the same with good robust finish. Creamy on the palate with chocolate notes throughout. Very good Porter.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2009 chocolatey caramel aroma, very nice. has a medium body, medium carbo too. oily mouthfeel, nice sweet malts underneath it all. flavor is dominated by malt, moderately sweet. not bitter at all, goes down very easy. its simplicity doesn’t take away from how enjoyable it is. Hard to fault a beer for being immediately tasty.

Dark brown body with a medium sized, tan head. The aroma is dark chocolate, coffee, roast and fairly vinous. The flavor is milk chocolate, slight roast, mild coffee and slightly tart. The medium body is never thin with slightly prickly carbonation. Well done porter, very drinkable.

Pours very dark. Lots of roasted malt here. Hints of chocolate and roasted nuts. A bit thin, and not a lot of complexity. Average porter.

Thanks to BuckeyeBoy for trading this one to me. What a beautiful pour. Almost black with a big tan head. The aroma is wonderful. Rich bitter chocolate and malts. Flavor is malts, chocolate and light coffee. Maybe just a touch of smoke also. The body was just a little thin but overall this is a very nice beer. Thanks again Jeremy.

Pours dark brown with slight translucency.
A nice head of brown rise quarter inch.
Aromatics are filled with dark roasted malts, coffee notes and underlying fruit. .
Some light vanilla notes finish out the nose.
Mouthfeel is medium, with some mild, prickly carbonation.
