With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Poured from a bottle. Pours deep brown with thick head, mild lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, toast. Delicious smooth flavor to match. Only downside is that it’s a bit too thin and watery. It would be better if it were a little more creamy. Would probably be amazing on Nitro.

Originally rated on 12/20/08. My least favorite thing about this was the smell, there wasnt much there to speak of. Other than that it was pretty decent, Flavor was of a strong dark chocolate, kinda dry and bitter, with coffee, and a slight nutty presence in the finish. Mouthfeel was a little on the light side, but it was o.k. Overall it was a pretty good porter, thats worth a try.

Näyttää kunnon porterilta vaahtoineen. Tuoksu maltainen ja hieman kuiva. Maku ei niin vivahteikas, harmittavan kevyt runko. Paikoin myös vetinen. Sinänsä helposti juotava perus-porter.

355ml pours cola brown with tiny off-white head. Subtle earthy aroma with a little cocoa and brown sugar. Flavours of roasted malt, cocoa, ash, espresso, and a little nuttiness. Overall a bit thin and watery. Flavour diminishes quickly at the finish leaving a slightly sour citrusy taste.

Black colour, medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dried fruits, coffee. Dry sweet taste, lightly bitter finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Very nice porter.

SONOFWODEN (56) - New York, USA - APR 17, 2017
Overall, this Porter was "ok" to good, but not great, and would not be a contender against Founders. It pours with a decent head. It has light chocolate and coffee aromas, a slight bitterness in the taste, but the body was too thin for me. It reminded me more of a Stout than a Porter. I was hoping for more body.

hauxe (761) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - APR 15, 2017
Pours brown with a frothy off white head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, with dank notes, like old cheese. Taste is bittersweet, with notes of chocolate. Light fruity undertones, but the chocolate stays dominant. Body stays to the lighter side of medium. Good.

Aroma is even ok, some roastness, some coffee, some chocolate. But taste is very weak. No body, it is like water, so totally not creamy mouthfeel.

This might actually be my favorite porter I’ve ever had. It’s roast yields a nice chocolate and coffee taste while the hop adds the proper amount of bitterness. Pours nice and black with a slight hue of burnt red.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a foamy beige head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate, coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, nuts, chocolate, licorice notes, a bit of dark fruit.
