COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

355ml pours cola brown with tiny off-white head. Subtle earthy aroma with a little cocoa and brown sugar. Flavours of roasted malt, cocoa, ash, espresso, and a little nuttiness. Overall a bit thin and watery. Flavour diminishes quickly at the finish leaving a slightly sour citrusy taste.

Black colour, medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, dried fruits, coffee. Dry sweet taste, lightly bitter finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Very nice porter.

SONOFWODEN (77) - New York, USA - APR 17, 2017
Overall, this Porter was "ok" to good, but not great, and would not be a contender against Founders. It pours with a decent head. It has light chocolate and coffee aromas, a slight bitterness in the taste, but the body was too thin for me. It reminded me more of a Stout than a Porter. I was hoping for more body.

hauxe (1063) - Butzbach, Hesse, GERMANY - APR 15, 2017
Pours brown with a frothy off white head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, with dank notes, like old cheese. Taste is bittersweet, with notes of chocolate. Light fruity undertones, but the chocolate stays dominant. Body stays to the lighter side of medium. Good.

Aroma is even ok, some roastness, some coffee, some chocolate. But taste is very weak. No body, it is like water, so totally not creamy mouthfeel.

This might actually be my favorite porter I’ve ever had. It’s roast yields a nice chocolate and coffee taste while the hop adds the proper amount of bitterness. Pours nice and black with a slight hue of burnt red.

Bottel to mug. Smells of coffee with notes of chocolate. Dark in appearance, with decent tan head. Tastes like black coffee (of which I do not mind), with slight nuttiness. May get again if in the mood.

Bottle at bottle share. Very dark with oatmeal head- a bit of a gusher... I get some dark fruit. Dry, bready, not bitter or sweet.

Aroma: rich, malty, chocolatey; Appearance: extremely dark amber with offwhite head that lingers; Taste: follows nose; a lovely porter; Palate: heavy body with dry finish; Overall: very enjoyable. Would get again.
