With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Its prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Sweet aroma of coffee and chocolate notes. Black color with amber edges. Tan frothy head upon the pour. Very fresh taste. Probably made from water of the gods. Medium-sweet taste that has the slightest tinge of bitter in the finish. Medium body with a thin texture. Not a bit of carbonation. This is a fantastic porter at an affordable price. High quality!!! Definitely recommended!

Bottle into a snifter. Aroma had chocolate, roasted malt, and I think anise. I dont really like anise, so it was hard to enjoy this one as much as I may have.

Dark and dreamy, rich and creamy. A very nice porter. Tastes of chocolate and coffee, roasted malt, great taste. Bottle from my cellar, shared with a dear ftiend. A memorable porter, on a memorable night. Well done Deschutes.

0,3l bottle at home bought from Beergium. BB 06/04/2017. black color, medium big tan head. smells of tomatoes, spices, licorice, tobacco, nutty, bit milky, decent overall. medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of licorice, nutty, hazelnuts, bit earthy, light caramel, some roast, tobacco, light cardboard. finishes lightly roasty with notes of hazelnuts, earth and some tobacco. overall ok beer but tastes quite boring / a bit oldish, seems like Beergium got some old beers. I had another one (Obsidian) which tasted even worse. Overall still drinkable, but do not care much about it.

At the Deli Restaurant with Jer on St. Paddys Day, celebrating his birthday and the like... on draught, brought out with its all-black majesty and a ring of brown head with residual smear in its middle... smells of lactic milk, toasted barley malts, and some earthy, peat/marsh funk... appealing on a snowy, rainy day like this... mouth feel is swift, a bit crunchy and warm at the finish, with an easy-drinking, textured medium body... the prevailing flavor is roasted malt, though enough hops make their way to the forefront to evoke pine and hard fruits--apple, pair... a solid, unspectacular porter that is as it should be--not to be confused with its bourbon-barrelled cousin, but no insult there...

commonmac (1155) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 16, 2017
Bottle shared by commonshawn and consumed on March Madness with said individual and samadouche. Belgian snifter glass. Pitch black with less head than expected. Nose brings the roasted muscle to the party with a coffee and chocolate characteristic. A slight citrus hoppy quality as well. Taste initially brings a hop bite before eventually allowing the roasted, nutty coffee and chocolate notes to embrace the drinker. Sweet without overwhelming the experience. Mouthfeel is slightly thin but does possess the advertised creamy characteristics. Pretty solid porter overall.

Bottle, BB 04.06.17 (from beergium). Pours black with beige head. The head stays for some moments. Aroma is fruits, malt, roast. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, fruits, sugar, malt, chocolate. licorice. Feels creamy - very nice mouthfeel. Overall: good, but bit sugary (would like less sugar, more dryness).

Maris (1448) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 1, 2017
From a 355ml bottle on 1/3/2017. Pours a dark brown with little in the way of head. The nose is light chocolate and some vanilla. Flavour wise, theres lots of sweet chocolate, some nuttiness, and a mild, slightly roasty bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Pleasant enough without being particularly inspiring.
