With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

Deep dark brown body, smallish diminishing dark beige head. Hops are quite subdued in this one. Very malty aroma. Notes of vanilla, roasted barley. Coffee-chocolate flavors. Finish is light, roasty and sweet.

Black Butte has a slight hop bitterness up front with a nice distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Very creamy mouthfeel and wonderfully intense flavors. I believe this was Deschutes first big name in their portfolio and it has done nothing but improve with time.

Chocolatey flavor without being too heavy or creamy. Palette is a little sweet afterwards, but is still very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Green coffee bean bitterness on the aroma, from a bottle , this has a rather thin mouthfeel , some spice and bitterness on the finish. Decent, but I was expecting more .

This is a pretty common and excellent porter. Very creamy and robost flavors make this a staple porter for regular consumption.

Appearance- very dark brown, slight ruby tinge, a small beige head which fades quickly. Aroma- coffee, dark fruits, milk chocolate, toffee. Taste- chocolate, bitter coffee, dark fruit traces, caramel malt, chocolate fudge. Full and quite thick mouthfeel, chewy finish. Very good.

I absolutely love this beer. Everything about it is incredible, and yet it also doesn't try to do too much. My mouth is watering as I type this. Well done

Draft at Brewdog Shoreditch. Chocolate and roasted notes that follows through into taste. Black appearance. Tastes fairly thin and overall fairly underwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong coffee and chocolate notes. The sweetness balances nicely with the light bitterness. A bit thin compared to other porters. Flavor improves and it mellows as it warms. Maybe my favorite Porter after Edmund Fitzgerald and Fullers ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
