COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Its prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2014 Amazing flavors without too forceful of a roast aftertaste. Wonderfully creamy mouth.

Nutty aroma with hints of sweet chocolate. Nice flavor profile but a too lively carbonation for a porter.

Pouring an inky opaque black with a negligible head. Nose is of coffee and sweet caramel malt. Taste has notes of bitter chocolate, sweet toffee and raisin. The mouthfeel is light and the finish is refreshing, making it full of flavor, and at 5.2% abv, a nice session porter.

Black, not much head. Sweet malty aroma. Not very heavy, medium-light body. Not all that much going on on the finish.

Dark brown-black with no head. Thin, smooth-bodied with a bitter coffee finish, and a bit of roasted flavor. Little aroma. Classic.

Pours a totally opaque midnight brown with a robust light tan head. Aroma is bakers chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is sweet roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses and a little coffee. Some bitterness at the swallow from the dark roasted grains.

12 ounce bottle, best by date of 04/23/17 printed on the label. Served in a Spiegelau Stout glass, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch tan head that stayed around for a little while. Theres also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, coffee and some dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, but theres also some bready/grainy malt and caramel noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, its a bit slick and is well carbonated. I think its a good porter overall. With that being said, I remember trying this (and liking it more) in the past, so Ill have to revisit this one soon. $1.79 a single.

Draft in cork and fork restaurant, cool, california. Thin and refteshing for a porter. More bitter than sweet. Drinkable. (Avoid the restaurant:

Draft. Dark black body, small brown head with small bubbles. The aroma is average for a porter, but the flavor holds up. It has smoke, coffee and a nice bitter finish.

Aroma is fantastic, very chocolate and sweet. Taste is light and roasty. Very light body, low carb. Its a good flavor but there really isnt much of it. Might be influenced by just previously switching from something very strong. Needs more punch. Kinda tastes like a Guinness.
