12 oz bottle. Pours a thick, inky black color with a nice tan head. Great lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, some peat, with some great cocoa notes. Flavor is similar, with a strong roasted malt backbone. I took a trip to Portland a few years ago and got acquainted with this beer. I recall sitting on my friend’s porch on Gladstone St. on a summer night, throwing back a couple of these. What a great beer.
Aroma- coffee, dark fruits, chocolate, roast and toffee.
Appearance- brown body with a small beige head.
Taste- chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, malt chocolate.
Palate - full body, thick texture, average carbonation, and roast astringent finish. ftzukrw (4) - - JAN 6, 2018 does not count

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2018 355 ml bottle. Pour is dark black topped with light tan or off white froth which dissipates to a thin ring. Aromas are mostly dark chocolate at first with roasted malts. Taste is dominated by roasted malts, so little sweetness, and mostly dry. Mouthfeel is creamy due to carbonation. arsol (1265) - NORWAY - DEC 27, 2017

Chokolade og mørke malte, næsten ingen humle. Fin balance i en let porter, som man sagtens kan have flere af. BierMeHoos (650) - Maryland, USA - DEC 7, 2017
Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 12 ounce bottle. Appearance: This has a nice look dark in color with about a finger of head. Aroma: light hop bitterness, malty, coffee and chocolate and a bit resiny. Taste: This is a very easy drinking porter. Well balanced on the flavor and overall just a great taste for 5.2 ABV. Palate: Slight carbonation, not to heavy, very drinkable. Overall I really enjoy this porter, definetely a nice balance of flavor and tart just what I expect from a porter. Not too sweet either. Excellent porter. A bit hoppy, but not to a point where it too much. Slight bitterness gives way to excellent roasted flavor. After taste isn’t great, but overall very satisfied. Will return again

Thick creamy beige head stayed on a near black, finely carbonated body.
Minimal aroma of dark fruit & malt.
Medium bodied, smooth & sharp on the back. Dry.
Dark bitter berries, sugar, cream, malt, dark spirits & a hoppy undercurrent. beerlover503a (28) - Alabama, USA - NOV 16, 2017
Black Butte has a slight hop bitterness up front with a nice distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. Very creamy mouthfeel and wonderfully intense flavors. I believe this was Deschutes first big name in their portfolio and it has done nothing but improve with time.
