XXIV. 24 years after Black Butte Porters debut, our potent, layered, imperial tribute returns. As usual, its a jazz riff, guided by the brewers muse and the lure of exotic ingredients. Artisanal dark chocolate nibs. Daglet dates. Mission figs. It may, possibly, hopefully, be the best edition yet. But, as it should be, youll be the judge of that.

Bottle shared by a friend. Pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate and roast. Malty and chocolatey flavor with dark fruit accents before a roasty finish.

Bottle, opened 7/19/13 four days before the best after date... oh well. Very dark brown pour with a creamy two fingers of tan head. Roast and chocolate in the nose, along with a little added sweetness that I suspect comes from the dates and figs. Given that I havent had a date or fig in several years, this fruity/beral spiciness must be their affect. It goes well with the dark cocoa and roasty notes... too well; it was very easy to power through my first glass. Overall very enjoyable.

Bottle 22fl.oz.

Clear dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130223]

Wow, what more can you say? This is one awesome beer. This imperial stout goes overboard on the flavors and is one of my favorites. Cant wait to try the XXV and compare.

22oz bomber via trade. Poured a good looking thicker viscous pitch black body with a foamy 1/2 inch deep beige foamy head. Aroma was the weakest part of this beer, notes of figs, black berries, dark toast, light chocolate. Palate is great, fuller bodied with average carbonation and milky mouth feel. Flavor is better than the aroma, anise, burnt malts, dark chocolate, figs, burnt berries. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out dates and figs upfront, followed by cocoa. Flavour brings out a wonderful blend of dried fruits and cocoa upfront, with a touch of coconut and a little vanilla. The fruit and cocoa are the dominant flavours. Quite full-bodied, with a rich lingering finish. Not as good as the previous anniversary versions, but certainly very good.

Bottle. The pour is dark, with a nice thin head. The aroma is mostly malt. The taste is very smooth. A little malt heavy, but not too bad for me. The booze is hidden very well. A very nice drinkable beer.

Bomber received in trade. Pours brownish black with a frothy goldenish brown head that slowly dissipates while leaving some thick lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and spicy with roasted malts, dark chocolate, figs, dates, allspice, cloves, wood, dark roast coffee, caramel and sweet dark bread. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and spicy with roasted malts, sweet dark bread, burnt caramel, fudge, allspice, cloves, coriander seeds, black pepper, moist wood, oatmeal cookies, vanilla fudge, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, brown sugar and hints of dark dried fruits. Mouthfeel is round, spicy astringent and medium bodied. Finish is bitter, malty and spicy with roasted malts, dates, figs, burnt cookies, cloves, allspice, black pepper, moist soil, charred wood and vanilla fudge. Whats up with all those spices. I had hoped for some dried dark fruit goodness but this is almost all spice...
