UPDATED: APR 4, 2013 Aroma of dark fruit, and figs with notes of chocolate. Pours a rich inky black with a nice mostly dissipating dark tan head and spotty lacing. The taste is a combination sweetness and bitterness. The more I drink this the more cloying it becomes. Syrupy sweet with a strong bitter aftertaste. Medium-full body with medium carbonation. Overall, I would not drink again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone tdoyledesign (179) - Michigan, USA - APR 1, 2013
I am not much for porters but the fact that this rates up there with my favorite stouts speaks volumes. Pours a dark brown with a faint head. Aroma is pleasant with some spices. Palate is multi faceted but not too complex. Taste is very good, but perhaps a bit flat. This could be because I tasted it back-to-back with various stouts. Overall a very good porter. Extremely drinkable for its type. budznsudz (582) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Pours black with a thin ring of tan foam and lacing that hangs on the glass. Aroma is licorice, black strap molasses, roast, and char. Taste is oak, dark roasty malts, light hops, black licorice, and dark caramel. This is more of a rich imperial stout than a porter. Really dense aroma and flavor that come together in a unique and beautiful fashion. Spectacular offering. phildorsey (161) - Fort Carson, Colorado, USA - MAR 31, 2013
1pint 6oz. Bottle. Bought this beer is August of 2012...waited until now to rate. Pours think black with a lightly foamy brown head. Aroma is full with chocolate/coffee notes. Taste is somewhat bitter, as chocolate and coffee flavors dominate the top of my mouth. The thickness and creamy texture is long lasting and welcomed. Overall; excellant beer, just keep getting better year after year. ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - MAR 30, 2013
22oz, black waxed bottle, via trade. pours a hazy, deep brown that sits almost black in the glass capped by a lively, dark khaki head that leaves sticky rings of lace. aroma is excellent, certainly one of a kind, with huge notes of sweet, dried figs, candied dates, and licorice backed by cherry cola, dark chocolate, and fruitcake with subtle hints of winter spices, wet wood, and earth. flavor is wonderful as well and follows the aroma nicely with more sweet, dried figs, fig newtons, black cherries, heavy licorice, and ash backed by rich dark chocolate, dark rum, and a heavy dose of roast on the finish. palate is medium bodied and silky smooth with a touch of heat. overall, another wonderful edition of the black butte anniversary series.

Deschutes Black Butte XXIV 9/24/12 notes: bottle. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is roasts with a fair degree of mixed dried fruit, fig is noticeable. Mouthfeel a touch light with mild effervescence. Flavor tempers Black Buttes ashy-roasty components with fruitiness, lightness. Always a treat, this year’s version doesn’t round out as nicely as I recall previous year’s batches. gregwilsonstl (2504) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 27, 2013

deep dark brown pour, 1 finger head. Nose is HUGE on the licorice and chocolate. Chocolate, tobacco, smokiness and licorice. Very cheap burnt candies.
