Serving: 22 oz. bottle via trade. It pours a viscous jet black with a large, dense, and lasting dark tan head. The nose is full of roasted malt and dried fruit. Rich and flavorful on the tongue. Notes of leather, tobacco, smoke, roasted malt, spicy hops, and dried stone fruit. Full bodied with lower carbonation and a lasting finish. Outstanding beverage that is holding up superbly. pdx77 (1483) - Oregon, USA - MAR 1, 2014
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2014 On draught at Lucky Labrador for the 17th Annual Barleywine and Big Beer Festival 3/1/14. Pitch black with dark tan head. Aroma of dates, plums, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Taste is similar to aroma but with cocoa nib, toffee, and bourbon notes as well. For such a big beer, it finishes very smooth, with a wonderful multilayered dessert-like aftertaste. On draught at Deschutes Brewery & Public House, Portland, for their 26th Anniversary 6/27/14. Potent bourbon, dark chocolate, and date notes. Amazingly complex yet balanced at the same time. slowrunner77 (11917) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 25, 2014
"A wonderful rich chocolate aroma greets the nose right off. Good doses of roasted malt, and a dark fruit cornucopiaas well. The flavor is still sweet, but not overly so like last years was inching towards. Great full, smooth body, and a solid balanced flavor. Loving this as an after dinner type brew. A treat!"

On tap at PDX Brewery & Public House. Wow! Big nose of anise, dark chocolate, berries, and alc. fumes. Pitch black, great lacing. Wonderful dark chocolate cake flavors, with cherries and hints of strong roasted coffee beans. Also, a bit of phenolic burnt rubber taste. Smooth complex aftertaste. Heavy body, a bit of tickling carbonation. Creamy, brilliant complex flavors. The aftertaste goes on and on. Great! JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - AUG 29, 2012
Black pour with a tan head. Dark chcoolate and sweet and roasty. Some dark fruits and figs are present as well. Taste is creamy and rich with some nice vanilla and a nice spicey bite. Loving this stuff!!!!! bnoel09 (587) - Elk Grove, California, USA - SEP 2, 2012
Poured into a snifter. Jet black with a brown/tan head. Aroma is sort of earthy with dark fruit and some vanilla. Flavor is quite complex with dark chocolate, some sweetness and dark fruit characteristics from the dates and figs, a nice roasty undertone, and some vanilla oak notes. Really nice combination. Palate is medium/full bodied and fairly creamy with some light astringency from the roastiness. Overall this was a little more mellow than the previous Black Butte anniversary editions, but still has really nice complexity of flavor. thetmaxx (917) - West Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 2, 2012
Poured into snifter. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruits, oaky. Flavour is similar, so chocolatey! The abv is UN noticeable. Palate is sticky and kind of sweet. I love it.
