COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dates, figs and chocolate. Black currants, barrel-aged in bourbon casks. The result is an Imperial Porter with a tart berry and chocolate aroma with luscious layers of dried fruit, oak and vanilla. A fitting tribute to the 25th Anniversary of our flagship beer.

22 oz bomber into a tulip glass. Best after 06/11/14. Pours a dark brown/black that lets little light through. Finger of murky tan foam. Aroma is dark fruits; raisins, figs, dates, the whole lot. Earthy yet bright. Bitter cocoa nibs. Some smokey roasted malts. Light vanilla and booze. Taste is big dried pit fruits with a peaty malt finish. Little bit of oak and vanilla. Chocolate and candi sugar. Smooth and light to medium bodied. Lingering sweetness. Much better as it warms up. Pretty solid and better then XXIV.

On tap at the brewpub. Black with a dark beige head. Fresh bourbon, some oak and light vanilla, roasted chocolate malts, coffee grinds, some burnt brown sugar, some fig and cherry. Moderate carbonation and body, slightly bitter, boozy, bourbon and some cherry finish. Not sure why but this series has never been my thing.

Draft. Whoa. Thick and bourbon-y with vanilla, raspberry, currant, raisin, barn, hay, cacao, and coffee all on the nose. Everything is balanced atop a mountain of malts, but there is enough hopping and more than enough alcohol to cut through the massive palate and let you taste everything distinctly.

Bottle: thanks, Doug! Opaque, completely black body with rustic, dark brown edges. Darker than last year’s edition. Slowly rising, light tan head that falls rather quickly. Aroma is comprised of roasted malts, light cocoa sweetness, heavy cola, molasses, & some dried dark fruit (figs, dates). Very mild woody aspect in the tail end is the only sign of barrel aging. Taste is more dark fruit forward with big notes of raisins & currants. Other flavors include light cocoa nib sweetness, tame bourbon, molasses, & some oak. Finish is somewhat astringent with a big tannic oak character & cola flavor. Better than the last anniversary beer (XXIV) but still not a home run... Decent.

Black waxed 22oz bomber pours with a deep dark looking body that supports a light mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up thick sweet malts and a wafer thin dash of prune to blueberry to date like dark fruity esters. It then gets into dark roasted malts mixed with caramel, chocolate and sweet molasses covered charred wood. Alrighty. The taste is typical Black Butte with rich goodness starting with thickly malt sweetened dark roasted malts and then chocolate mixed with molasses, a thin layer of dates and brown sugar dredged prunes. To midway bourbon muscles onto the scene with a firm warming feel and a slightly harsh booziness. Just your typical greatness here.

Thanks for the share, OmegaX. This year’s batch is pretty complex, offering lots of chocolatey and berry-like flavors. The finish is full of dry cherry, oak and ripe fig. I really appreciate the smooth malty character that sweetens as it decants in the ol’ snifter. Cheers!!!

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a smallish tan head that disappears quickly. Nose has a decent amount of bourbon in it, but you can get some dark fruit and roasting underneath there, if you pry hard enough. You can get a little sweetness from the fruit in the taste up front, with darker roasting afterwards, and definite oakiness throughout. Smooth and satisfying...

Nice, similar to the XXIV not quite as fruity. Same figs, dates, nuts and bourbon feel to the beer for me not quite as nice.

Whiskey and toffee with some dates and vanilla. Black with a quickly fading dark tan head. Tons of lacing. Slightly effervescent, some coffee and cocoa bitterness. Dark fruit, coffee, booze, licorice. Just a hint of spice at the finish and a lingering boozy warmth in the throat.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours jet black with tan head. Aromas are dark chocolate, vanilla. Taste is more dark chocolate, dark sugars, whisky and berries at the end. Sweet. thinner than the 24, quite a sticky texture though. Nice.
