Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment kind of thing. This year we’ve chased down Virgil Gamache farms, famed amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year

Bottle from BevMo Mira Mesa. Pours golden with an inch of white head. Nice bright citrus aroma. Also leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. lots of citrusy hop flavor. Not a ton of bitterness which I think would make this beer a stone cold killer.

Bomber from Capone’s. mixed experiences with fresh hop IPAs. This one falls into the nice category. Nice presentation of the Amarillo hop. Light to medium bodied with a pilsner like appearance. Thin white frothy head. Aroma is lemongrass, fruity esters, mango pulp. Lack of traditional biting hop profile is apparent, along with ambiguous malt presence. Herbal and faintly medicinal. Taste is slightly spicy. Juicy fruit. Super fresh hops. Faint lingering dry hoppy character. Good beer from Bend finally available in Philly. Worth the $11.

Bottled. Pours light orange with hop dust floaties. Good sized head and a nice sticky lace. Aroma is sweet orange citrus and grass. Palate starts off light, juicy sweet quickly followed by a soft, persistent bitterness. Light-med body, sticky-creamy texture, and a very dry, bitter finish.

Bottle. A: Dark yellow verging on orange. Lax white head that decides it’s not interested. N: Lemon, grapefruit, tangerines and oranges. Very fruity. Some toffee and pine. T: Fruity and bitter. The malt adds a touch of sweetness on the front end. Kind of light for the style, but I get where they were headed with this. Can get rather astringent. M: Medium-light body with a fair amount of alcohol and good carbonation. O: An interesting take on a fresh hop IPA. I like it and then I don’t when it starts to bite in an non-pleasant hop manner.

The perfect expression of what one of these fresh hop pale ales should be. Beautiful bright pine and citrus hop flavors. Malts play background music. Super herbal and citrus in the aroma. Extremely well balanced. Lovely. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle cracked by Bill at his house. Poured clearish golden color. Aroma was head and shoulders shampoo and belgian stuff. Tastes are weird: sweet malts, white wine, weak but bitter hops, and bubblegum flavored grains. Medium bodied. Very disappointing ipa with a great name. Figured it would have been great especially with all the Amarillo in it. Oh well.
