This strong porter features a solid smoke presence, a rich malt character and a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. Additions of dark muscovado sugar, oats and wheat contribute to its complexity.

Sample at the Smoked Meats and Beer tasting on 05/27/2017. Dark brown color with a medium beige head that recedes quickly to a film. Short strings of lace. Campfire and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with flavors of burnt malt, bittersweet chocolate and coffee. The finish is intensely smokey with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Poured into a snifter. 3.5 A: Black color. One finger of frothy/creamy tan head. Retention is lacing and just a few wisps of lacing are left. 3.5 S: Hmmm. This is interesting, but I cant decide if I like it or not. Sweet caramel is at odds with the smoke forming a "sweet smokiness" like smoked pork with sweet sauce. Chocolate, roasted malts, licorice, and a light nondeScript fruitiness. 3.5 T: The taste is like the nose and again Im not sure what to make of it. Sweet smokiness, chocolate, roasted malt, licorice. 3.5 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation and reasonably creamy. Good enough here. 3.25 D: This seems to have more Deschutes influence than Great Lakes and I think Id like it more if it was the other way around. Its no bad, its just not for me. ★ 785 characters DavoleBomb, May 09, 2014

Hazy amber color with a small beige head that goes away quickly. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Very sweet flavor driving to a slightly hoppy finish. Thick body and low carbonation.

Not my favorite style. Also, I kept this about six months too long in the cabinet. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Might have been beige, even. Kind of malty, kind of roasty, light chocolate, light coffee, light body. Mild bitter at the end. Tepid smokiness, I tried, just not my thing.

Bomber from Antioch Fine Wine. Very dark brown pour, with a bit of a tan head. Aroma had sweet caramel, some choc and some smoke. Taste is caramel, some brown sugar, light molasses, and some meat smoke. Medium to full bodied, with some alcohol. Finishes more sweet than bitter. Decent brew, not stellar. 13.7

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 Bottle thanks to Brian. Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head. A big sweet malty smoky flavor. Dry earthy. Solid. The base porter is fairly robust with light sugary sweetness, nutty at times, mellow but nice smoke.

"A little sweeter chocolate and caramel character than expected and a little less roasted barley and coffee. The smoke is done very well. Medium bodied and smooth, especially at 9%."
