DRAUGHT: Persistent, frothy head with a variety of bubble styles. Taste was without much smoke flavor. Rich, toasted malt flavor. This beer blew my mind. My wife, who generally doesn’t like beer, had two.
BOTTLE: A completely different beer from that on tap. Appearance is nothing as close to the awesomeness of the draught version. More smoke flavor. Just, generally, not as awesome tasting. ads135 (4590) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 8, 2013
While not the best smoked porter I’ve ever had, its pretty close. Smoke is apparent, though not overwhelming. Very mild on the nose and palate. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Rich and brown chocolate appearance. EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - JUL 20, 2013
The color of this beer is a gorgeous clear, dark reddish brown with a medium off-white head that quickly fades to a ring, and the aroma is a seductive combination of smoke, booze, wood chips, vanilla, and chocolate malts. The taste is quite umami, slightly sweet, and a touch sour; furthermore, the palate fuses a medium body, slick texture, smokey finish, and the tiniest bit of carbonation. manisthebeer (246) - squamish, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 31, 2013
heinous smokey smell almost petey or like a dryer liquid smoke so damn good pours solid black with minimal dark choc brown heAD the taste is unbelivievable so damn complex but simple its got a nice smokey sensation to it with min carb witch i like this beer just kicks ass Caskalefan (168) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JUN 2, 2013
Off-white head, deep ruby brown hue, strong smoky aroma (almost reminiscent of Lapsang Souchong tea) with nice chocolate underpinnings.
Taste is similar, and the body is silky, and almost creamy, particularly for a porter. The finish is lengthy and the smoke clings to the palate much like the lovely lacing clings to the sides of the glass. Despite the definite smoky leanings, this never crosses over into campfire or ashtray territory, but reminds me more of Schlenkerla Rauchbier.

Aroma dark fruits, rasins, prunes, molasses. Nice and black on the appearance. Taste is a little dry and has a slight bitterness on the finish. Mild warmth from the booze but the 9 percent isn’t too prevalent. This one has both Imperial and Porter written all over it. Good example of the style but I’d expect nothing less with Great Lakes and Deschutes at the helm. rollsrace (81) - - SEP 2, 2014
Combo of Great Lakes and Deschutes. Tasted on 3/28/2014. Got for $7.27 per pint. It’s a superb blend of Black Butte Porter and Edmund Fitzgerald, with roasted smoked malt. Not too chocolate, not too coffee, not too much smoke. dwyerpg (6078) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAY 30, 2013
A really nice strong smoky aroma. Unfortunately, no head at all. This is tasty. A good strong smoky flavor, which overrides the sweetness I find in so many porters. A bit alcohol-heavy in the finish. The aftertaste doesn’t quite meet the body, but this is a good beer. stantheman (1036) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 18, 2013
Bomber from Brewery Creek Cold Beer and Wine Store in Vancouver. Almost black with moderate tan head. Smoke and malt on the nose. Big smoke, malt and impressions of dried fruit. Wonderful mouth feel. No hop detected. Smoky finish. Very nice! mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - JUN 8, 2013
Nice. Strong malty aroma. Smokiness is quite prominent and the base porter has a hint of molasses. Perhaps my only complaint is that the high ABV goes from a nice warmth to a tad of alcohol burn, detracting from smoothness. Would likely benefit from aging. Overall, tho, solid and quite nice.
