Dark orange color with a small head. Aroma of orange and light floral notes. Moderately bitter taste. Some floral and orange. Light caramel malt. Simple but solid IPA. Guerde (1297) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUL 20, 2010
(bottle) Pours a dark copper color with a medium cream colored head that retains well. When still, the beer smells bready (kind of rye-like actually) with a decent amount of caramel as well. But as you swirl this beer, the hops kick in and provide a nice hit of tropical fruits like pineapple and tangelo. Juicy and candy-like, which I prefer over the herbal and resinous hop aromas. Taste is on the sweet side, with plenty of caramel followed by a brief dash of the juicy hop character that quickly yields to a quite bitter grapefruit pith flavor that gets a little bug-spray like. Some bread is present between the sweet and juicy transition. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is appropriate. Overall, not a bad IPA by any means, but the exceedingly bitter finish was a bit much. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 17, 2010
Bottled. Poured slightly hazy medium amber with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sweeter, toasted caramel and candied fruits, with a little bit of sour influence.. grassy and citrus hoppage surrounded.. OK stuff. The flavor found more of the malty sourness throughout, with caramel providing most of the support.. moderate bitterness around, in the form of peppery earth and pine.. sharp and bitter on the sticky finish. Medium-bodied with an OK flow at best.. got caught up on a few places.. a little harsh at the end. This was OK, but not one of my favorites. Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 16, 2010
amber pour with a thick off white head.
aroma is caramel and citrusy, some woody hop as well.
flavour is very nice in the front. Smooth malt sweetness, caramel as expected and some almost rye like tones, some burnt caramel bitterness, less fruity citrus in the flavour. More woody hoppiness. Medium lingering herbal/woody bitterness in the finish.
Reminds me a bit of Anderson Valley Hop ’Ottin. taphandle (1135) - Texas, USA - JUL 10, 2010
Dark amber, slightly thin head. Piney, bitter aroma of hops. Taste is a bit sweet and malty with sufficient bitterness and a nutty finish. The alcohol is hidden quite well.

Bottle. Pour is copper in color with a kahki head and has a nice lacing. Aroma has a sweet sugary malt scent with hints of pine. Taste is bitter grapefruit with crisp finish. Palate is a little watery with a bitter chaulky finish. ilovedarkbeer (2742) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JUL 6, 2010
Pours a reddish brown / amber color with a medium sized foamy off white head. Notes of clementines, toast, brown sugar, resin, and flowers. Medium weight mouthfeel with decent balance. deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 6, 2010
Bottle thanks to Ben! Poured a clear deep amber with a thick off-white head that dissipated slowly and laced nicely. Aroma was grassy with notes of cereal and grain with a slight underlying citrus. Flavor began with more citrus and then pine grew with the cereal taking a bit of a back seat. BarZigKin (511) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - JUL 2, 2010
On draught at the Tap Exchange in San Antonio, TX. Poured an amber/orange body topped with some sticky, off white head. Aromas of piney hops up front, citrus (tangerine) hops toward the end along with a bit of malty sweetness. Sort of odd, unbalanced malt/hop flavor from the get go. Malty sweetness (some caramel and melon) was there, but, the hops were flat. Could have been an issue with the lines or keg. Better than average as served, but, could have been better. Will revisit a bottle or pint in the near future. andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 2, 2010
Enjoyed from 12 oz glass. Aroma is pronounced in citrus / lemons with a great hop character. Very smooth, not too carbonated, hops outweigh the malts in taste. Just a great IPA.
