Weiss in German means “white” and is pronounced “vice”. This traditional South German Hefeweizen was brewed with 50% wheat, Pilsner, and Munich malts. The aromas of bananas and cloves dominate this very drinkable wheat ale.

Draught sample at Portland location. Cloudy, golden colour that "looks like a hefe...smells like a hefe" and tastes like a well-done Bavarian hefe. Lots of banana and clove in the aroma and flavour.

KyotoLefty (10808) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 13, 2009
Draught at Deschutes Brewery and Public House in Portland. Decent wheat malt fragrance, with a good first taste including bananas and clove, quite authentic, but flavor quickly vanishes and leaves just a bit of cardboard and lemon. Hmmm. Good start, bad finish.

On tap at Portland brewery. Pours a hazy banana color with a thin cream head. Aromas of earthy bananas and bubblegum sweetness. Tastes primarily of bubblegum and some malt, but very little banana or clove.

Had this on tap at the Deschutes Public House in Portland’s Pearl Dist. Colour... cloudy, straw, thick head. Nose... butyl esters, light clove, some cinnamon. Palate... almost frothy on the palate, somewhat tangy, bananas, more clove, classic bubble gum flavours (like Bazooka), mildly grainy finish. Nice American take on a south German Hefe!

On-Tap @ the Portland Brewpub poured into Imperial Pint glass. Pours a cloudy but glowing marigold with two fingers of fizzy white head that quickly dissolves into a very fine ring around the glass. The aroma is banana, clove and mellow spicy yeast. The flavor has much of the same as the nose but is sweeter, almost bubblegum, with wheat and some hops. Its a light bodied beer with plenty of carbonation. Its very tasty brew and easy to drink and with the alcohol level where it is makes for a great session ale.

On tap at the Portland location. Dark gold, close to an amber. Aroma of banana and clove. Slightly sweet. Flavor had a decent amount of sweetness. Banana notes. Alot of clove and spice in the finish. A bit too much spicing for my liking, but still good overall.

Draft @ Bond Street Brewpub, Bend OR. Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a small white head. Has a malty spicy wheat aroma with some banana hints. Sweetish fresh wheat malty flavor with some grassy hints. Has a sweetish wheat malty finish.

On-tap, Public House, Bend OR - Banana and clove with a sweet estery profile. Slightly grainy wheat malt and some sour notes.
