2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
651mL 2009 ed black wax poured into snifter. The color is a clear, later hazy, reddish orange with a small, but dense yellow head. Not too much retention but leaves a small protective layer. Very little lace. Aroma at first cries infection- maybe Brett or something similar but not quite as nice. Spicy wood, phenols, spicy sourness lead me to believe there is something wrong here. As it warms up, the infection notes are replaced by spicy alcohol, toffee, caramel, chocolate covered strawberries. Fresh air, dew, melons blend with spicy alcohol and heavy phenols. Big Nestle Quik cocoa powder and malted milk balls (Whoppers) show through as well. It’s interesting but I’m not sure if I like the odd combo. Taste up front is pretty much confirming my infection hypothesis: very light bodied, dry, spritzy with hot alcohol still very present. Something like Brett but not quite has attenuated this down to near zero and leaves no body. Palate is very chalky and powdery. Hard to drink this without getting a headache from all the phenols and not so nice infection character.
2014 bottle. Pours a murky reddish brown color with a good head retention. The foam laces my glass and looks rather inviting. The aroma is of buttery caramel, mild to medium intensity of grape notes, apricot, some barrel character, yeast, faint earthy or vegetable hop aroma. Tasting was very smooth, very descent body, and the mouthfeel is spot on. Tasting, I noticed a creeping but pleasant bitterness, honey, syrupy toffee flavor, vegetable taste, sharp maltiness, and cherry like taste. The finish has a medium bitterness that lingers, high syrup caramel and honey taste, with an acidic cherry grape like flavor. A rather complex blending of flavors. I really enjoyed the malty flavor. Overall 2014 was a good year. It held up rather great. delnoche (516) - Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA - APR 22, 2017
1pt 6fl oz bottle poured into a Trappist chalice. Copper with a tall tan head. Aroma is full of sugar and alcohol. Flavor is very strong, lots of bourbon. Alcohol burn lingers. This one's a slow sipper.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2017 English Barleywines are one of my favorite styles. Tough to get Midnight Sun Arctic Devil, which is my white whale. But this 3 year old (2014) Mirror Mirror is downright delicious. When I’ve consumed this brew at a somewhat younger age, there’s been a hop bite that was a little off-putting. This 2014 rendition (which is its most recent release) still available in March 2017 (at an undisclosed location) is smooth, vanilla, fig/raisin/date goodness all the way. beerplace (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 10, 2017
On tap at Beer Junction. Vintage 2014. Pours a hazy amber with a tan head. Aroma and taste are very sweet, dark fruits, candies, candied fruits and hoppy bitterness. Quite oversweet, but good, though.

Bomber, 2014 vintage. Sweet caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee, pine resiny hops, oak, wine and some vanilla pours dark cloudy caramel colored with a thin tan head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors with a bit of oak and wine. Finishes very smooth and a bit dry with some pine resiny hops and a bit of vanilla to go with a bit of dry red wine finish. Excellent! jandd1983 (4318) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - JAN 19, 2017
Bottle. It poured an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of caramel, toffee malts, candy and a touch of bitterness. The taste was similar to the aroma with more caramel, malts, candy, dough and wood. Good stuff. beertholomeus (1813) - California, USA - DEC 14, 2016

Bottle sample at SBWF. Pours brown with white head. Aroma is sweet but taste is too alcoholic for my taste.
