12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours dark black with a brownish tint. Thin mocha head that lingers. Aroma is lightly charred malts and earthy hops. Taste is creamy bitter black roasty malts. Rich but not overly so. Finishes hoppy and bitter. Nice low ABV (relatively speaking...), this is very easy drinking and sessionable. Not heavy bodied, which you might expect. For a straight up, plain old, not imperial, chocolate, coffee, belgian, whatever stout, this is as good as it gets.
Nice. Black pour with beige head. Aroma is chocolate molasses and vanilla. Taste follows nose with a nice bitterness. balloonbuffoon (667) - - DEC 5, 2017
12floz bottle, BBD: 05.12.2018, $1.75 unit cost, nonic glass. A soft, level, tan head sits atop a near black body as roasted grains and molasses aromas escape. Balance is chief trait. It's like a toasted graham cracker. Perceived bitterness is nowhere near what the 55 IBU would suggest. A great all around stout. Cakes (496) - New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 27, 2017
Twelve ounce bottle. Black chocolate color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, chocolate, hops, vanilla, nuts and a bit coffee. Very nice. MrTipple (6592) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 5, 2017
Intense dark chocolate, cacao, dark roast filter, dark, charred malts. Hazy, very dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Medium bitter. More dark chocolate, cacao, burnt malts, dried coffee beans, soft carbonation, full bodied. Beautiful, very punchy. Keg at GABF17, Denver. javadrinker (3) - - OCT 28, 2017 does not count

Poured from 12oz bottle a pitch black with a large off white head of foam that dissipated slowly
The smell has a lot sweet roastiness to it with notes of chocolate and coffee.
The taste is also very roasty...nice balance between the sweetness from chocolate and coffee flavours and the hop bitterness. Makes for a very tasty yet smooth brew and there's no alcohol presence on the palate at all. Yum!
Bottom line: One of my favourite American Stouts out there. I highly recommend it!
Has been the ‘standard’ for more than 20 years imho. Just bitter enough to let you know you’re not sipping a sweet malt bomb. Great on a Fall afternoon. bdleedahl (603) - , Saskatchewan, CANADA - OCT 6, 2017
On nitro at the brewery. Nice feel, but he hops come through significantly more than the roasted malts, which to me is not overly desirable.

12 oz bottle poured into frosted pint glass. One my absolute favorite "mass produced" craft beers. Predictable, well balanced and good to the last drop stouts. Kinda early in the season to begin drinking dark and heavy beers, but I could not resist!
