Deep, robust and richly rewarding, this is beer to linger over. Obsidian has distinct notes of espresso, chocolate, roasted malt and black barley, with just enough hop bite to cut the sweetness.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours dark black with a brownish tint. Thin mocha head that lingers. Aroma is lightly charred malts and earthy hops. Taste is creamy bitter black roasty malts. Rich but not overly so. Finishes hoppy and bitter. Nice low ABV (relatively speaking...), this is very easy drinking and sessionable. Not heavy bodied, which you might expect. For a straight up, plain old, not imperial, chocolate, coffee, belgian, whatever stout, this is as good as it gets.

Bottled. Pours black with an average tan head. Aroma of roasted, coffee, chocolate and dark fruits notes. Sweet flavor that ends up being more dry and slightly bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Stout. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

On nitro at Deschutes Public House. This could be the best stout Ive ever tasted, smoother than a milkshake, amazing.

Its my favorite, and while there may very well be a better one out there somewhere, I havent found one I like more, so I gave it my top rating

Backlog, Bottle in 2010 or 2011 with Joe. Pours ultra viscous black with smaller head. Smell and taste of dark chocolate, burnt coffee, toast, barley and roasted malts were the main tasting notes we got out of it. Nice but possible too much char?

Stark contrast to Black Butte, nose on this is chocolate right up front. N2 tap pours nice and smooth. Flavor is mostly roasted malt, with a nice breadiness.

Had on tap at brew pub in Bend. Completely black, no light getting through. Noticeable brown top. Strong chocolate smell. Super thin. Could drink in winter.

Bottle. Aroma roasted malts with coffee grounds finish. Pours black with tan creamy head (thickness depends on how steady your hand is). The flavours may be robustly malty with a sweetness that may edge it to the stout/porter border. But it draws appeal from both. Splendid.

Pours as black as obsidian with an appealing crema head. Aromas of espresso and deep roasty malts. The flavors of a French Pressed coffee permeate the tastebuds. The boozy heat lingers on the finish. This is a beer thats meant to be sipped and enjoyed.

Black with a regular brown head, good lacing. Nose of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. About the expected in the palate: roasted malts, coffee and chocolate, with good dry hops to balance. It doesnt add anything to the stout universe, but its a damn good stereotypical stout!

Cask at GBBF 2016, Olympia, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, coffee aroma. Tastes quite similar, roasty, malty, chocolate, espresso coffee, slight bitterness. Decent stout from Deschutes.
