Deep, robust and richly rewarding, this is beer to linger over. Obsidian has distinct notes of espresso, chocolate, roasted malt and black barley, with just enough hop bite to cut the sweetness.

Enjoyed via a bottle from St. Paul, MN. Pours a dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Smells of coffee and some grassy hops. The taste is coffee, chocolate and some hoppy bitterness. There is a slight taste of alcohol as well. The aftertaste is bitter and dry with lots of coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Visual: (cellared for 1 year). Pours ultra dark brown without a head but temporary surfacing bubbles, thin ringed retention, barely visible singular micro streams.

Nose: toffee malt, sweet cocoa, chocolate truffle. (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: off-dry crisp, roasty malt impression

Mid-palate: background controlled acidity, (lvl-3-sweetness), coffee fruity overtones, medium dry roasted barley malt

Finish: long-lingering medium bitter dry woody roast, roasted exhale

Summary: Lots of lengthy roasted malts with a just enough sweetness and acidity to balance it out. Medium bodied, low creaminess. Smooth drinkability.

It pours black with a tan head. It has moderate coffee aroma. Also hints of chocolate and dark roasted coffee flavors. Spicy elements and slightly burnt notes.

Presque parfait. Magnifique bière. Sur le robinet à Blue Rock Pizza High Point, NC.

FreekyP is drinking an Obsidian Stout on nitro at Blue Rock, High Point NC. He thinks it is the best stout he has had in quite some time. The nitro pour brings out all best qualities of this beer. FreekyP thinks it may be the creamiest beer he has had in recollectable history. Unfortunately, recollectable history does not go that far back for FreekyP due to excessive consumption of malted beverages. This one strikes a perfect balance between roast and chocolate with espresso bitterness rising in the finish. FreekyP is impressed with the huge dollops of tan lace that are stuck to the sides of the glass as he consquarbles this beer. He thinks of heavenly thoughts, like midgets covered in chocolate syrup squirming in a trough of cotton balls. FreekyP has an extensive roster of issues which will not be discussed in this public forum, but he has an expert beer palate, and vehemently insists that this beer is "the shit". And so it is.
