COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This year’s version of Deschutes Brewery’s Oktoberfest utilizes German Pilsner and Munich malts, as well as German Perle and Hallertau hops. This year, we tried a very traditional method of acidification in our brew kettle. We used a sour wort strain we received from the Distelhauser Brewery in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany. Say that after a couple of pints…we grew this mixture or organisms in 4 gallons of our unhopped Mirror Pond wort and added it directly to our brew kettle for a refreshing, zippy finish on this beer. The sweetness in the background really makes this beer. Still a bit thin on the body. But all around decent beer. Deschutes portland ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Bend pub. Pours out a golden topped with a white head. Nose is of a autumn day. A nice malty sweetness and a good spice.

At the PDX brewery. Pours a reddish copper color with a medium white head. A light floral nose, bready sweet malts. The flavor is mild spicy hops, sweet toasted malts, toffee, a bit of dry earthiness. Quite good.

Imperial pint at Ventis Taphouse in Salem. Deep copper coloured beer, small off white head. Aromas of biscuity malt and hazelnuts, hint of grassy hops. Nice smooth caramel flavours, grassy hop bite in the end. Nice enough on the palate..smooth ,lowish carbonation Very enjoyable marzen.

On tap at Fremont Oktoberfest, Seattle, WA out of the woody truck. First I need to say that I really really really wanted to like this beer. Unfortunately the Fremont oktoberfest was crowded with a lot of awesome beers...let alone oktoberfest lager style beers. This beer was average at best amongst the finest amber lagers. Aroma was slightly toasty with a hint of sweetness. It poured a respectable light amber in color with a fair bit of microfoam. It tasted fairly flat however, missing the mark on the rich maltiness that oktoberfest is known for. Instead I tasted a fair bit of burnt toast and a flatness about the malt. Finishes fairly flat with a mineral component.
