We’ve always believed the best way to respect tradition is to brew the unexpected. So when we set out to create a sessionable lager befitting of the Pacific Northwest, our sense of exploration led us to this dry-hopped wonder befitting of everyday adventure. Citrusy Tettnang Mandarina hops combine with the crisp, bright character of a traditional lager to deliver a beer that is truly refreshing, and undoubtedly worth sharing.

Pretty good lager. Kind of yeasty with a bit of citrus. Good but not one I’d go out of my way to buy.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Flowery hops, pale and grainy malts, and mild bitterness. Good stuff; very drinkable.

Shaker pint draft at Tanners in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour is a slight haze yellow golden with a fizzy 1/2 inch white head. The aroma is light grass, lemon and some herbal. The taste is big herbal, lemon verbena, grass, cracker malt and a mineral earth finish. The palate is medium to light bodied fine active carbonation and the mineral herbal finish. Herbal citrus lingers dry, chalky almost dirty. Kinda weird.

Crescent City, Ca - Northwood’s Public House - on tap. Sparkling light golden pour, snow white head, nice lacing. Aroma of sweet honey. Flavor has a light citrus bite to it, some baked bread, Thick, sticky mouthfeel. Rating #30 of my 2017 Northern California vacation.

Bot. Wonderland IPL? Perhaps but from start to finish this is more like a mildly hopped saison. Very light pale with a barely detectable haze. Good slight hop aroma, smells fresh. First impression on the palate is foaming sizzling co2. Yes, something in that yeast makes me thing its a saisie. Yes, the hops are there but they are not overwhelming. Well, OK, after the middle those hop thangs start to settle in trying to be an IPA. In the end its a pretty decent India flavored beer, some manners with a little bit of civility. Yes, love that sizzle carbonated saison feel in this one, right up to the finish.

12oz bottle. Hazy yellow-orange body. Foamy white head. Boring brewhouse aroma, faint Mandarina I suppose. An OK drinkable beer, but a little bit rough, grainy, cheap feeling. Medium bodied. Easy going, balanced.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a medium sized white head. Soft grain, crisp and a touch of fruity yeast. Medium bodied, soft and grainy, a nice bread note to it. Sweet grain, a bit of fruit. Fairly crisp into the finish, nice clean grain and a bit of crackers. Quite easy drinking.

Pacific Wonderland: It tastes like eating a yeasty ball of bread dough soaked in sauerkraut juice and wheatgrass.

GoufCustom (2358) - HONG KONG - JUL 16, 2017

355 ml bottle bought at HK Brew Craft in Central.

Looks: Translucentpale golden honeyThree-quarter finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant and sweet bready malt, with strong citrus, honey, floral, molasses, spices, herbs, dry biscuits, strong lemon and fair grass.

Taste: Mid to light sweet fair Pils malt, with light honey, light citrus, floral, light sugar, spices, fair herbs, biscuits, light lemon, medium bitter hops and grass.

Body: Close to light body. Thin and crisp palate.

Mouth Feel: Good Pils maltyness in a watery background. Subtle Noble hop taste dominates with fair tiouch of citrus, spices and herbs. Flowery with moderate sweetness. Bready with light lemon to round. Quite well balanced!

Hoppiness: Strong citrus, honey, floral, spices, herbs, strong lemon and fair grass in nose. Light citrus, floral, spices, fair herbs, light lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is notable but moderate, medium astringent bitter-sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Citrusy and herbal bitter to mouth.

Comments: Rather than an IPL, this is more like a hopped-up German Pilsener. The noble hops seems substantial as in nice sweet citrusy aroma, yet the taste is subdued and light spicy. Non demanding, light and relaxing, quite an alternative to most West Coast hoppy IPLs. Worth a try at least.

There is a time and a place for every beer, and I think I had this one in the perfect time and place. Crisp refreshing brew for sipping by the pool.
