COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour Quad is a sour strong ale aged in Pinot and Sherry casks. This sour ale features a nose of Brett with a mix of complex yeast driven fruit aromas of apricot, blueberry, cherry, and peach. Its big malty sweetness and fruit notes balance the wood character and tartness from the barrel aging process. 12% ABV 52 IBU

Bottle (22 oz) shared at tasting, thanks to JulienHuxley. Clear amber with a small off-white head, good retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is of Pinot noir perfumy notes alongside Sherry earthiness, brettanomyces, some spiciness and a bit of alcohol. Taste is quite fruity and moderately sour with not much residual sweetness, moderate booziness, earthy and vinous nos and mild spiciness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Super vinous mouthfeel. Fruity finish with some alcohol warmth. That’s a weird concoction but it’s tasty and flavorful. Reading the description, I thought it would be a failed batch of Quad gone that soured but if that’s right it certainly doesn’t taste as such. Fun product.

Nice sour aroma. Poured amber with an off-white head. Flavor is funky with some dull barre wood and cherry notes. Notes: GABF

Pours a clear copper with no head or lacing. Nose is of pinot noir and oak with acetic angles. Taste is indeed really vinous, moderately sweet and sour with more grapes. A lot of booze, too, but not really disturbing. Moderate body and carbonation and just ultra vinous. A bit hot right now but still a lot of fun.

My Bottom Line:
Cherries and sherry swirl about, warmed up by alcohol, musty honey and acidic fruitiness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the deep amber mist.
-The mouthfeel is surprisingly dry.
-Phenolics add spiciness to an already complex profile.
-I would never have said this was initially a quad. That being said, this is a unique creation which truly deserves to be brewed again more regularly.

Bottle.

rb gathering, mtl. pours hazy medium dark golden with a small white cap offering some retention and lacing. sour grapes, pinotaging, semi-sweet strawberries, light to medium acidity - bittering and warm alcohol, lots of spicy honey, lots of spices, low belgian character. moderately low carbonation, medium body - oily; tart if not sour warming spicy finish. not so much of a quad. but nice american grape sour ale.

Pours slightly hazy orangy copper with a nice buff head. Aroma delivers sour citrus and tropical fruit notes. Flavor features citrus, peach, berry, apricot and malty notes, sweet but not cloying, a little sour, a hint of malt. Mouthfeel offers good body and fizz, and a fruity finish. Glad I got to try this one.

A hazed golden amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with ground cherries, lactic acid, light corky notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice tart caramel malt with light ground cherry notes, xérès, light vanilla extract, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. Bottle at ratebeer Quebec gathering.
