Tap at the downtown Portland location. Dark copper pour with a thick white head. Bi citrus hops, lots of resin. Taste is malty crispness, well balanced with the huge hop bitterness. Hophazard (193) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Mainly citrus on the nose mixed with slight spruce. Clear and dark copper body underneath an off-white head. A woodiness seems to impinge on the northwest piney hops. Cask at Deschutes in Portland. Orangy amber with a slight haze and a big bubbled up crown. I’m told this us an offshoot of Red Chair. Big soft fruit dominated by sweet, melted caramel. Comes across succulent and rich, maybe bread, mild citrus, oranges and lime - excellent aroma is making me quite happy. There us an odd feel to the aroma that baffles me especially when warm. Very rich taste of the usual caramel / citrus blend but done up better. Sweet soft caramel runs amok, marking fruitiness blended in with citrus (tangerine, light grapefruit, hint of tropical??), pine. Decent beer that if it was on tap in Edmonton I would drink into a coma state. Short finish.
