12 oz bottle: Appears as a brass colored beer with sediment floating throughout the liquid as a gentle layer of foam sits peacefully on top. The nose is mild with no real personality to distinguish it from the next ESB but hey they can’t all be great. Flavor is boring with only small notice of honey and earthy hops. Had this beer on 8/11/2004. Aroma is a caramel malt scent. Color is bright clear gold with light carbonation and thin head. Taste is bold and bitter. Starting with a light/medium body that goes down with a sharp feel. Finish comes on with a bold full flavor that is a bit of a surprise. It starts with a sweet malt flavor that is backed by a big bold bitterness and nice hop flavor. buddahmind (39) - Boise, Idaho, USA - SEP 21, 2007
Real good when it comes out. I get a little burnt out by summers end. Sweet and bitter with good balance of hop and malt profiles. OD40oz (774) - Box Elder, South Dakota, USA - SEP 19, 2007
I didn’t think that this was too bad of a brew. It had a hazy color with a small white head. Citrusy smell with a fresh clean aftertaste. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - SEP 15, 2007
Bottle. Slightly hazy light yellow color with a billowy white head. Mild fruity malt aroma with a very low key (almost imperceptible) hop profile. Medium-bodied. Murky light hop start and a light fruit finish. Pretty damn boring and a disappointment from Deschutes.

part of me thinks im rating this so low because im disappointed a seasonal offering is something as basic and rather bland as a bitter. it went down easy, but overall the flavor and aroma were pretty boring. im sure they got what they were aiming for, as ive always been impressed with deschutes consistency. however, this isnt something i would get again (unless maybe on handpump the way a bitter should be) JohnnyJ (5545) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 3, 2007
I enjoyed the brew, it’s better than the Cascade Ale (had them side by side). Aroma of citrus, light sweet malt, grapefruit, and in the background hints of sweet candy sugar. Pours a golden amber with fluffy white head. Flavors of fresh hops, citrus, malt, and bitter hops in the finish. A nice summer beer. Prostman (1077) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 3, 2007
This tasted very similar to Cascade Ale. This would be a nice beer to have in the summer months as a session beer. riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - SEP 1, 2007
Aroma of citrus hops - mild. Pours gold with a small white head. Flavor is hoppy citrus with a little lemon zest and little malt backbone. A little dry and resiny with some lingering bitterness. Average. NickVega (154) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - AUG 30, 2007
Deschutes makes fantastic light ales. Cascade and Twilight are very nice drinking. Summer Ale - got it...
