COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian-style abbey ale crafted like those that Trappist monks brew for their own session beer. It is light bodied, light in color and relatively lower in alcohol with spicy phenolics and complex fruity esters of cherries, nectarines, peaches and bubblegum with a characteristic slightly tart and dry finish from the Belgian yeast.

Gold color with a towering head. Very heavily spiced nose and strong yeast character. Light flavor, a bit like water crackers. Hints of honey and floral hops.

On tap at Pretentious Beer. Clear orange, nice white head. Hearty, bready aroma. Taste is like a sweet bread. You like Hawaiian bread or something like that. Nicely full bodied. Plenty of yeasty flavors as it warms. Pretty tasty.

12 ounce can from The Malt Shoppe, 9/11/16. Uh oh, some bad signs here. Hazy orange, large foamy head, about 5 fingers before I got half the can emptied. Good retention. Aroma has some chlorine and bandaid. Also some bready malt and citrus. The taste is stone fruit, bready malt. Assertively high carbonation is stripping out most of the flavor. Thin bodied. Something is awry here.

Draft at Sociale, Chicago. Light notes of Belgian yeast and savory malt. Dusty cellar flavors. Not mush to it.

Can. A- Floral, garden veggies, fruity esters. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Bubblegum, subtle banana, fruit esters, flowers, slightly vegetal. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, yeasty finish. O- Pretty standard and nothing about it really excited me. It’s drinkable but the flavor profile is just a bit bland.

Golden pour with a big white head. Yeast and grain aroma with an odd metallic undertone. Taste is better but the fizzy finish kind of ruins it.

12 ounce can from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL, (partially) consumed at cellar temp from a Chouffe tulip. Big fluffy head dies slowly above a piss-yellow-gold body...aroma dry and lightly yeasty, pretty faint at first but eventually an unpleasant bathroom odor emerges and does not leave...body also fairly dry, a bit cidery, lightly yeasty, and rapidly turning sour and bitter in a very unpleasant way...watery body, very heavy carbonation. I see this brewer everywhere and "Abbey Single" or "Belgian Single" or "Trappist Singel" or whatever is still a fairly underrepresented style, at least in my neck of the woods, so I got a whole sixer of this on a chance; boy was that a bad move. One of the last blind six-pack buys I made before coming back to RB - "thankfully" I saved one can of this (bought back in May or early June I think) so I could rate it if I was going to come back here again. Well, I did, and now it goes down the drain. Guess I’ll be careful and try to get just one when next I try this brewery.

Can. Pours a golden color with a fair head and spots of lacing. Aroma of caramel, trace of fruit, spice and yeast. Taste of caramel, bit of fruit and spice. Mild bitterness and a fairly dry finish. Moderate body, smooth and quite carbonated. Better than expected.

Pour is a dark golden with a average white head. Aroma is a helping of the yeast with a big helping of some sweet caramel malt. Flavor is more of a dull dry malt not much of the yeast esters show up. Finish is dry and bready malt. This was just o.k. Not much of a yeast presence but on the other hand it was not as sweet as I thought it would be. This was more like a marzen than Belgian ale.

Can. Pours a brownish amber with a thin head and toffee aromas with a bit of leaf litter and earth. Flavor is kind of nutty and watery. Not my favorite take on the style.
