Named after the headhunting, beer brewing people of the ‘sacred waterfall’ in South America, this oatmeal stout includes oatmeal in its grist, resulting in a pleasant, full flavor and a smooth profile that is rich without being grainy. A roasted malt character which is caramel/chocolate-like is evident but is smooth and not bitter. Coffee-like roasted barley and roasted malt aromas (chocolate and nut-like) are prominent and only intensified with the use of several pounds of DESTIHL’s own blend of South American coffee in this beer. Underhopping allows the coffee to contribute to the flavor profile while not becoming excessively bitter. Alcohol by Weight (Volume): 4.5% (5.7%) Bitterness (IBU): 26 Color SRM (EBC): 57 (114)

Pours black with thin, almost non existent head. Aroma is wonderfully chocolate and coffee. Taste doesn’t live up to the aroma. Very drinkable, but won’t order again

On tap @ the brewpub in Champain. Near black, quickly collapsing head. Coffee and roast aroma and flavour, burnt bitterness. Solid.

Sampled in Champaign 11.2012.
Nice coffee aroma.
Black, lowish head.
Good coffee roast and bitter chocolate notes, well balanced.
Fairly light body, a bit more restsweetness and chewyness would have been nice.

Narnad (1521) - Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2010
Comes to the table a pitch black color with a very dense, creamy, dark tan head sitting atop the brew. Aroma is a punch in the face of black coffee with mild chocolate notes coming in behind and finishing with a burnt malt. Flavor begins with a very strong burnt malt presence, moves into a slightly watery dark chocolate flavor and finishes with a pretty strong coffee note that really sticks around for quite some time. Body is very light with mild carbonation and has a watery feeling to it. The body is a bit weak which really makes these flavors stand out a bit strong.

Smells like a cup of coffee, and tastes like a cup of coffee. Coffee flavor way to dominant, no real flavor.

drowland (9161) - Georgia, USA - AUG 14, 2009
Big coffee smell like a caramel cappuccino. Flavor is mostly straight black coffee that lingers in the back of the throat with hints of smoked tobacco. Pretty good and drinkable, but the coffee covers other flavors that could round it out. Smooth and creamy.

kseecs16 (1216) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - FEB 20, 2009
Draught. Pours an opaque dark brown with a very thin tan head, little lasting lacing. Strong roast coffee aroma with sweet chocolate notes. Coffee roast flavor is nice upfront, but lacks body or a real full flavor. Creamy and not thin in the mouth.

timmy300 (203) - bloomington, Illinois, USA - FEB 16, 2009
nicely balanced coffee beer..............................................

SkyinBrian (430) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - JUN 30, 2008
A little thin, but does have a nice coffee flavor, unfortunately, the coffee is better than the beer here.
